This position will be hired for a research project under Nutrition Research Division focusing on environmental, heavy metals and chemical exposure and their impact on human and occupational health. The research predominantly comprises assessing the impact of indoor and ambient air pollution on women and children’s health. It also provides motivation to the community people to reduce pollution levels through behavior change communication.
Key Responsibilities:
The Research Officer reporting to the Assistant Scientist will be responsible for supervising data and sample collection at field sites, implementing project activities assuring quality with the objective of supporting research studies within the guidelines of project-specific research procedures and organizational values and guidelines.
He/she will be responsible for the following-

Train, supervise and monitor regular activities of field staffs and ensure quality data collection. Providing support to the field team in screening, selecting and motivating eligible participants for enrollment into the study when needed;

Prepare user guide and training manual for the field team on Tab-based field data collection tool using predefined survey questionnaire;

Create tools for Android Tab/Mobile based applications and digitize questionnaires using platforms such as Kobo, SurveyCTO, ODK etc. Conduct pre-testing and finalization of survey questionnaires in Tablets. Data coding, data cleaning, and generating SPSS data file for the statistician;

Conduct real-time data reviews and provide instant feedback to the field team and share collected scrutinized data with the statistician;

Design and develop GPS/GIS live maps for tracing the households of participants, preparing distance-based map using QGIS;

Manage and operate air pollution related devices (e.g. Purple Air and UPAS) to collect air quality data and troubleshooting;

Train participants on using of smart phone for receiving mHealth based voice and video messages;

Maintaining and managing field documents such as (wage loss, conveyance sheets of participants and field staff), field data files (e.g. individual participant files containing consent forms, clinic visit forms etc.), and manage logistics and specimen transportation from field to Dhaka.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Masters in Biological Science from any reputed University
- 3 years’ relevant experience required. Candidates who have knowledge in operation of personal and ambient air pollution measurement devices such as Purple Air and UPAS devices and who can create tools for Android Tab/Mobile based applications, will be given preference.
Location: Dhaka
Contract Type and duration:
- Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 3 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- 59,900/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
