Mycobacteriology Laboratory under the Infectious Diseases Division will implement a global research program funded by Unitaid, that aims to develop and evaluate novel combinations of tuberculosis diagnostics in high burden settings at the point of care. These diagnostics will be deliverable within the primary healthcare settings to increase the number of people diagnosed with tuberculosis and to ultimately improve linkage to treatment.
The Research Officers will report to the PI/Associate Scientist. The position holders will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing laboratory assays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine laboratory experiments independently in accordance with approved SOP for detection of tuberculosis, for example- decontamination and processing of biological specimens, AFB microscopy, culture on solid and liquid media, drug susceptibility testing (DST), DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, ELISA, CRP, LAM assay etc.
- Store and preserve samples in appropriate conditions as per the study protocol;
- Input data into the SPSS data management system and also in the REDCap software platform;
- Analyze data, write study reports, and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals;
- Monitor and track consumption of resources and maintain the laboratory inventory to execute research protocols and interventions;
- Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment for their optimum operation and perform minor trouble shooting;
- Literature review, and develop new concepts;
- Support research team, coordinators, and PI in preparing reports for collaborators and sponsors;
- Check adherence to quality assurance processes from sample collection to reception by the laboratory;
- Maintain laboratory standards for ISO certification.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- MSc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology/Microbiology/Biotechnology from any reputed University with good academic results;
- At least 3 years of relevant research experience in the field of microbiology and molecular biology;
- Candidates with experience in microscopy, culture and drug susceptibility testing, GeneXpert, IGRA test, PCR, and TB MIC determination, will be given preference.

Contract Type and Duration:
- Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 06 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- 57,048/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
