Clinical Microbiology and Immunology laboratory under the Clinical and Diagnostic Services, icddr,b delivers clinical diagnostics and research support to icddr,b internal stake holders, researchers as well as outpatient clients. The laboratory process and test human samples for a versatile menu of routine serological and immunological tests in compliance with ISO 15189 and ISO 15190 standards and requirements. The position holder will operate in an automated environment using complex autoanalyzers integrated with LIS while adhering to laboratory’s set standards and SOPs.

Position Description:

This Research Officer will directly report to Manager, Clinical Microbiology and Immunology and will be responsible for Planning, organizing and implementing quality laboratory diagnostic services with the objective of conducting high-quality clinical laboratory testing and documentation within the guidelines of SOP/protocols and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in the following activities-

  • Perform routine laboratory tests and assays in accordance with approved SOP and keep legitimate records using approved forms and worksheets;
  • Validate and adopt of new or revised tests or methods as per protocol, generate and analyze data to evaluate performance characteristics;
  • Verify test results maintaining strict confidentiality in order to carry out clinical laboratory diagnostics services effectively.
  • Verify equipment performance, generate data and validate as per protocol, perform and document preventive maintenance and calibration of laboratory autoanalyzer’s as per SOP and validate calibration;
  • Identify equipment malfunction and report for immediate action, perform minor troubleshooting where appropriate for operator;
  • Adhere to and implement equipment maintenance plan;
  • Keep legitimate records of equipment maintenance in order to maintain optimum functionality and smooth operation of the laboratory equipment’s.
  • Prepare controls, calibrators, inhouse reagents and chemicals, and maintain log;
  • Prepare, label, distribute in house laboratory reagents and chemicals adhering to recommended and inhouse established procedures and SOPs and document in legitimate records;
  • Ensure proper storage and safe use of laboratory reagents and chemicals
  • Prepare requisition for stock and non-stock lab supplies and keep updated records;
  • Maintain inventories for stock/non-stock laboratory reagent and consumables;
  • Monitor and track consumption of resources and provide timely feedback to supervisor or concerned team member to raise requisition;
  • Track and document date of expiration and ensure safe disposal of unused controls, calibrators, reagents and chemicals in order to ensure optimum use of logistics and supplies.
  • Implement and adhere to ISO 15189 standards and requirements;
  • Identify and report deviation from standard practices during laboratory operations and carry out corrective actions;
  • Maintain all appropriate logs and forms of QMS;
  • Generate and evaluate data for quality indices e.g., Uncertainty of measurement;
  • Identify need for development and/or revision of SOP; and when assigned, develop new SOPs or revise existing ones as per guidance of supervisor;
  • Ensure safe disposal of specimens, reagents and chemicals addressing appropriate hazard level.
  • Practice and monitor practice of bio-safety procedures in the lab in order to maintain compliance with ISO 15189 and 15190 standards and requirements

Required qualifications and experience:

  • BSc in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Microbiology or BSc in Medical Technology with good academic record.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a relevant field;
  • Working experience in ISO accredited laboratory will get preference

Location: Mohakhali, Dhaka

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Fixed Term Contract; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Annual Tk. 7,18,800/-inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances and other admissible benefits.
  • 8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
