JOB DETAIL

Position: Research Technician

Duration: 12 months

Station: Lilongwe

DUTIES:

  • Assist in selecting and evaluating suitable land for field trials.
  • Prepare materials required for the establishment of field trials.
  • Assist in laying out, establishing, and management of field trials.
  • Assist in data collection, entry, and analysis, while strictly complying with the project quality specifications.
  • Be engaged in soil and plant tissue sampling for nutrient analysis.
  • Assist in evaluating suitable land for demos, selecting good and resourceful farmers to mount demonstration plots.
  • Provide technical guidance to farmers on the establishment of technology demonstration plots.
  • Train farmers on good agricultural practices and assist them in adopting new technologies.
  • Conduct crop production estimates in liaison with partners and the supervisor.
  • Assist farmers and partners in organizing field days and other project events.
  • Maintain records and contribute to the preparation of technical and financial reports.
  • Liaise and maintain a good relationship with local administration, agricultural officials, other partners, and stakeholders.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisors from time to time

Requirements

QUALIFICATION:

  • Degree in Agriculture or any other related field with a minimum of three (3) years of experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.

COMPETENCIES:

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have good communication skills (writing, reading, and speaking).
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft software (word, excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to use basic analysis in R.
  • Have the ability to work with little or no supervision.
