Reports to Pre-breeder and Physiology Scientist and Farm Manager
Location: Marchouch, Morocco

Main purpose of position

Providing support for both basic and research activities for the farm manager and the phenotyping program, with special emphasis to phenotyping activities, at the ICARDA research station located in Marchouch and eventually in other research stations in Morocco.

All CGIAR Centers are currently engaged into a reform process (“One CGIAR’”) that will help ICARDA and CGIAR achieve better impact through more strategically integrated research, unified governance, an integrated structure, and new research modalities across participating Research Centers. This transformation is supported by CGIAR donors who have committed to increased funding as a result of these reforms.

Main responsibilities

• Assist in preparing field plans, land preparation, sowing, harvesting, threshing of Root2Res and BarleyMicroBreed Projects trials.
• Preparing seed materials for Root2res and BarleyMicroBreed Projects trials for planting at research stations in Morocco and other countries.
• Undertake input and irrigation activities.
• Assist in collecting samples and data, managing, and summarizing data.
• Supervise daily workers, the team of farm workers and HTP system driver.
• Organize high throughput phenotyping of Root2Res, breeding and Barley MicroBreed trials and any other trials to be phenotyped.
• Warehouseman for pesticide and fertilizers controlling their distribution and keeping their inventory.
• Supervise the preparation and maintenance of all farm machinery.
• Preparation of seeds for the station, especially for demonstrations and execution of the plans drawn up by the farm committee.
• Supervise the proper functioning of the mobile febro for phenotyping at the station and in all sites where ICARDA works in Morocco.
• Download the data and transmit it to the supervisor in a timely manner.
• Help ensure that the irrigation systems on the farm are working properly in case the farm manager is absent.
• Perform any other job assigned as per the requirement of pre-breeding and physiology scientist.

Requirements

Education, qualifications, and experience

• Diploma in agriculture or 2 years of experience in breeding/ research program after Higher Secondary School degree.
• Demonstrated experience in field research.
• Good experience in field research management.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data recording.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Good command of spoken and written Arabic, French and English.

Terms of appointment, salary, and benefits

This is a nationally recruited position open to Moroccan nationals for which ICARDA offers an attractive compensation package including a competitive salary, medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, five months’ maternity leave, 15 days’ paternity leave. The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract of 3 years, renewable subject to continued need for the position and satisfactory performance. The first year will be probationary period.
