Research Trainee (Adv#147/2024)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation. icddrb as a value-based organization encourages women and people with disabilities.

The program of Enteric Infections and Vaccines under the Infectious Diseases Division conducts research with vaccine trial unit for multiple projects like RSV, Polio, HEV, Flu vaccine etc. icddr,b is working for controlling enteric infections, detecting and controlling emerging and re-emerging infections with the collaboration of the relevant government and non-government stakeholders.

Objective:
This Traineeship will provide an opportunity for aspiring researchers to work with the eminent public health researchers and receive hands-on training, exposure, experience in a research based environment like icddr,b. The Traineeship programme is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and performance of the individuals who wants to become an independent researcher at icddr,b.
The Traineeship is aimed at capable individuals who have recently completed their Masters or primary professional education, are in the career formative stage (within 3 years of receiving most recent degree), and are interested to make a career in research. The Trainee will be required to perform duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
The Research Trainee will be reporting to the PI/Co-PI or her/his delegate. The Trainee is expected to contribute in public health research under the guidance of the PI. She/he will assist PI and be primarily responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct literature review;
  • Analyze data;
  • Draft concept notes, protocols, reports and manuscript;
  • Prepare and deliver presentations;
  • Support in project coordination and implementation;
  • Assist in budgeting and financial management.
Required qualification and experience:
  • MBBS from reputed institute with good academic result (Please mention the percentage of marks/CGPA in your application) and registered by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
  • Candidates who demonstrate exceptional research skills will be given priority;
  • Candidates who are self-motivated, enthusiastic and are interested to stay at Matlab for at least 2 years are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English;
  • Must have strong critical thinking skills, ability to identify substantive problems and creative capacity to resolve problems. She/he should be proactive, dynamic, and capable of working independently.

Location: Matlab

Contract Type and duration:
  • Duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to performance.
Stipend & Benefits:
  • Tk.74,620/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • The progress of the Research Trainee will be monitored and evaluated. On successful completion of training and final evaluation, the Trainee will be awarded certificates;
  • Income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen;
Prospects:
After completion of at least 1 (one) year Traineeship, Trainees will be eligible to apply for any other suitable posts against icddr,b vacancy announcements. However, such posts are not guaranteed. The selected Trainee will not be eligible for any other Traineeship programme at the Centre.
