This assignment for Individual contractors/ researcher is to accelerate the endeavor to expand the Costs to Trade Portal on the Arab Trade Gateway. The services of an individual contractor are needed to assist the project coordinator to build a comprehensive database by accessing compiling and cleaning pertinent data on trade flows, domestic production, tariffs, non-tariff measures and other relevant information. The contractor will be tasked to manipulate large datasets in STATA to automate and document the process, as well as estimating econometric models and assessing the plausibility of the results.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: This assignment for Individual contractors/ researcher is part of technical cooperation to MS and in line with Project on Facilitating Arab Regional and Global Integration through evidence -based policy making Toolkits. Duties and Responsibilities: The services of an individual contractor are needed to assist in building and updating CGE Models (national versus Global). The IC will also support the project coordinator to build and develop simulation tools for trade analysis and external shocks evaluation. In particular, the IC will be tasked to do the following: A. Assist in developing detailed national SAM for Arab economies. B. Developing Global Trade database (trade flows and Trade barriers as part of the development and updating of national global CGE models for trade analysis. C. Update ESCWA’s single and/or global dynamic CGE models for Arab economies using updated SAMs and baseline scenarios. D. Revise the GAMS’s codes for ESCWA’s CGE models through integrating new policy variables. E. Assist in developing the business as usual scenarios for single and/or global CGE models F. Prepare a variety of presentations, tables, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for information and review by senior officers on project related topics. G. Participate to capacity building activities on ESCWA’s single or global CGE models and performs other related tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
A Master degree in Econometrics, applied Economics, or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of three years of professional work experience in coding with GAMS programming and CGE Modelling with application to trade analysis is required. Experience and knowledge of Statistical software (STATA or SAS) is required. Proficiency in Microsoft office application is required. Strong skills in Trade Analysis is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic and French are desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
