About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

 

Job Purpose

 

The Project on Resilient landscapes in the Tonle Sap, funded by GEF and FAO, will be implemented to test sustainable practices and implement training of trainers in Cambodia. At the same time, the IRRI-Cambodia Office implements several initiatives as part of the One CGIAR.

The position provides support to the GEF Resilient Landscapes Project, as well as several initiatives (the Asian Mega Delta, Plant Health, and Excellence in Agronomy). The incumbent will support projects through implementation of social science research activities, including surveys, gender studies, focus group discussions for monitoring, and other technology adoption research. S/he will also support multi-stakeholder platforms in Cambodia.

This position will be based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Cambodia.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of social science research, and other data collection activities with the project team, consultants and partners
  • Develop questionnaires and implement surveys, with support from supervisor and team
  • Manage data sets
  • Train others in the team and partners on survey data collection
  • Collate and manage data sets, provide simple analysis from data
  • Report summaries from qualitative data collection
  • Coordinate local partners, enumerators, etc. in the implementation of research activities
  • Provide technical assistance to partners for implementation of activities
  • Coordinate data collection and monitoring
  • Ensure excellent implementation of research activities
  • Collect and manage data accurately, shares with the team according to standard formats
  • Provide reports on time
  • Provide clear guidance and mechanisms for data collection

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Economics, Rural Studies or other related fields (application in agriculture preferred)
  • With 2 – 5 years of experience in research within these fields, especially on rice based systems

 

Skills Required

 

Mandatory

  • Experience on applied research methods and analysis of survey data, good communication and coordination skills

Preferred

  • Knowledge on qualitative research methods
