icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates to create a reserve list for the position of Medical Technologist (Laboratory/Radiography). This reserve list will remain valid for next 1 (one) year. The upcoming vacancies of Medical Technologist (Laboratory/Radiography) of all Divisions will be filled-in from this reserve list.

Job Profile:

The Medical Technologist (Laboratory/Radiography) will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing quality services of laboratory/research/programme including sample collection; sample processing, sample shipment; incorporating patient/participants data; delivering reports to the patients/participants as per the requirement of the respective project/unit OR, perform radiological procedure within the guidelines of research-protocol and organizational values and guidelines. The major areas of responsibilities may include but not limited to:

Duties and responsibilities

Medical Technologist (Laboratory)

  • Check the study participant’s ID and list down the tests to be performed of that particular participant;
  • Explain the procedure of sample collection to the participants as per guidelines;
  • Enter the participants’ information on the respective study logs and forms;
  • Provide lab test results to the respective study hospitals and share these results with study participants;
  • Counsel patient and explain the procedure of study sample collection;
  • Collect blood, nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab samples, urine, stool and other biological highly infectious specimens from the study participants;
  • Complete study logs and forms related to specimen collection and tests;
  • Maintain appropriate sample collection procedure by using appropriate PPE as per standard infectious sample collection and handling guidelines;
  • Perform regular maintenance related job and calibration of laboratory equipment for their optimum operation and perform minor troubleshooting;
  • Contact with bio-medical engineers for maintenance works of lab equipment;
  • Maintain temperature log for sample and vaccine fridge/freezer/cool box and control temperature as per guidelines;
  • Follow institutional biosafety procedures during sample collection, labelling, transportation, processing and waste disposal.

Medical Technologist (Radiography)

  • Take radiographic images while performing a diagnostic imaging examination;
  • During an x-ray procedure, position a patient’s body in a specific manner to capture the exact image;
  • turning and lifting patients with limited mobility;
  • Places the imaging equipment at the correct height and angle relative to the patient’s body to produce the radiograph needed;
  • Take required measurements to determine the minimum effective amount of radiation needed to gather the appropriate image, and set the controls accordingly;
  • Brief X-ray procedures to a patient; Use proper exposure factors to avoid repeat exposure and maintain safety from radiation hazards;
  • Compiled all the radiological procedures by using computerized radiography;
  • Check quality before delivery of film i.e: positioning, artefacts, sharpness of the image, side determination, name and registration of the patient etc;
  • Perform contrast procedure and safely handle the fluoroscopic examination;
  • Determine and apply all relevant laws, rules, regulations and recommendations by NSRCD relating to the application of ionizing radiation to patients and staff;
  • Understand both the somatic and the genetic hazards which are consequent upon the medical and research uses of ionizing radiations;
  • Confirm all persons in the room are appropriately shielded before exposing X-ray.

Requirements:

Education and Relevant Experience:

  • B Sc./ Diploma (3 years) in Medical Technology (Laboratory or Radiology & Imaging) from any reputed institute recognized by State Medical Faculty;
  • 3 years’ experience in relevant field.

Functional/Technical Competencies:

  • Equipment usage & calibration;
  • Testing methods, procedures & interpretation of test results;
  • Specimen Collection and Handling;
  • Waste management, Radiation safety and control;
  • Quality Assurance Standards;
  • Laboratory Standards (e.g. ISO);
  • IT services, systems and applications

Duty station: Anywhere in Bangladesh as per project’s requirement.

Salary:

Fixed Term – Tk. 521,070/-per annum;

Short Term – Monthly (CSA) – Tk. 43,423/- per month;

Short Term – Daily (Daily Wage) – Tk. 1,613/- per day.

Benefits/facilities:

Fixed Term: 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children [email protected],917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.

Short Term – Monthly (CSA): Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.

Short Term – Daily (Daily Wage): No benefit is admissible.
