About the position
We are looking for a Research Associate with computational skills and knowledge of Python and deep learning. The goal is to apply deep learning techniques to analyze drone and satellite images, using methods developed by the phenomics team. The Research Associate will also learn and work with existing remote sensing and image analysis tools from the phenomics platform. They will collaborate with consultants and scientists to understand agricultural remote sensing technologies (such as drones, robots, and satellites) and help develop field protocols. Additionally, the selected candidate will support field data collection, image processing, and data storage, working under the supervision of senior engineers and data center researchers.
The position will be based in the operations center of the Americas, located in the Campus of Palmira, Colombia. The position will be performed in Laboratories, field and crop trial from Crops for Nutrition and Health Program.
Key Responsibilities
· Analyze data from drone images and develop image analysis pipeline to extract data automatically.
· Support Deep learning team to develop prediction models.
· Develop SOP (Standard Operation Procedures) for data collection if necessary.
· Support with field operations teams for ground truth/accurate data collection (visits to the field).
· Develop HTP Image analysis and machine learning pipeline and improve if necessary.
· Integrate different sources of data and manage data on the server.
· Evaluate carbon prediction models and validate using field data.
· Develop biomass models using machine learning to predict soil carbon.
· Assist in drafting scientific articles under the guidance of the Scientist.
Qualifications and requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, computer engineering mechatronics engineering or similar careers.
· Relevant experience and knowledge of drone and satellite Image analysis, machine learning algorithms.
· Experience in experimental design and knowledge of plant systems.
· Experience in analysis of large data sets; skilled in computer science, e.g., scripting languages and statistics such as “Python–” and “R–“; knowledge of quantitative image and analysis and data extraction
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge of a broad range of techniques including crop image computing, computer vision, or machine learning.
Terms of employment
This is a nationally recruited position placed at a BG06, on a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest.
This is a Colombian national search and will be managed through a fixed term contract of one (1) year period, subject to a probation period according to the local legislation and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
