About the position
Based in Rome, Italy and under the supervision of the Senior Officer, Global Engagement and Executive Communications, as part of the Global Engagement and Events team, the Temporary Assistant will support the team in identifying key advocacy opportunities, partners, and coalitions to position the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT in relevant policy and investment decision-making processes and influence their agenda and outcomes. The incumbent will undertake background research, prepare briefing notes, organize, and follow up on meetings, and ensure the team and relevant stakeholders are kept up to date.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor developments in key international decision-making processes (e.g., UNFCCC, G20, G7, etc.) and prepare and update a calendar of major events, meetings, and other advocacy-related opportunities such as submission dates, workshops, and side events.
  • Prepare updates and briefing notes on policy, legal and institutional developments of specific sub-processes of key international processes.
  • Undertake desk research and prepare background materials on key stakeholders, advocacy entry points, as well as priority and emerging advocacy issues related to key international decision-making processes of interest to the Alliance, e.g., UNFCCC, G20, etc.
  • Support the organization of regular and ad hoc working group meetings related to major international processes and events, preparing agendas, background materials, keeping minutes, tracking and following-up with agreed-upon deliverables and actions.
  • Prepare regular briefs on progress in the Alliance’s advocacy efforts, progress towards milestones, successes and lessons learned, for dissemination to our scientific community.
  • Attending relevant internal meetings and reporting back to the team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Undertake mappings of policy positions and key messages produced by the Alliance and close partners to support the team’s engagement in major processes.
  • Assist in other tasks and initiatives as assigned by the Senior officer, Global engagement and executive communications.

 

Requirements

Essential Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Sustainable Development or other relevant subjects is highly desirable.
  • Previous relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills, with the ability to convey complex and technical content in engaging, succinct, and clear formats.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication,, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and national backgrounds.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required and working knowledge of Spanish or French is desirable.

 

Benefits

Terms of employment
This is a temporary support position, which will be based in Rome, Italy.
The monthly salary will be EUR 2,983. The position will be for a period of 4 months.
