Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in Risk Management and Compliance Unit within the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), based in Mogadishu Somalia. The Risk Management and Compliance Assistant reports to Risk Management and Compliance officer.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Risk Management and Compliance Assistant is responsible for the following duties:
Oversight and Audit:
• Assists in collating suggested audit, inspection and evaluation inputs for the annual work plans of oversight bodies; the United Nations Board of Auditors (BOA), Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) and the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS).
• Assists with the provision of briefings to oversight bodies on Mission policies, procedures, guidelines and systems.
• Acts as focal point coordinating responses to oversight queries and reports based on comments received from offices.
• Assists with monitoring the implementation of oversight recommendations and facilitates communications with offices on actions required to implement outstanding oversight recommendations.
• Coordinates regular reporting on the status of implementation of outstanding BOA, JIU, OIOS, Minimum Operational Security Standards, Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards, Fire, and Aviation Safety recommendations.
• Updates the Audit Track database and other oversight tracking databases regularly.
• Supports the conduct of self-assessment reviews ensuring quality and timely responses on the results of self-assessment for submission to DFS.
Internal Controls:
• Updates information on the Mission’s internal controls mechanisms.
• Assists Officers with translating new Administrative Instructions into Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Service Lines, as well as maintaining the mission’s Service Line TORs and Process Guides in coordination with other Units.
• Participates in carrying out random reviews of transactions to ensure compliance to rules and regulations.
Risk management related activities:
• Assists with the implementation of a risk management process in the mission in accordance with DFS guidance.
• Maintains the Mission Risk Register to facilitate the performance of risk assessments.
• Provides inputs for the development of reporting formats and distribution timelines for all risk management matrices.
• Coordinates and follows up on the preparation of a regular “Mission Risk Management Report” specifying activities and progress made for analysis and reporting purposes.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Certificate in finance, accounting or business administration from a technical or vocational institution is required.
Work Experience
Eight years of progressively responsible experience in audit, finance, accounting or related area, including work at both the national and international level is required.
One (1) year of experience providing services to or in a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English ( both oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
