Role and Responsibilities:

The SIP Officer will be responsible for supporting implementation of Safe and Inclusive Programming (SIP) considerations in Amhara under direct supervision of the Area Program Manager. SIP is the term that NRC uses to describe protection mainstreaming.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines on areas linked to Safe and Inclusive Programming
  • Support program teams with mainstreaming and rolling out SIP tools and guidance in line with NRC’s global Safe and Inclusive Programming approach.
  • Develop strong working relationships with protection actors to ensure referral pathways Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
  • Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.

Specific responsibilities: 

  • Provide staff training on Safe and Inclusive Programming, community SIP assessments/monitoring, and referral pathways.
  • Support, plan, implement and monitor day-to-day SIP activities as part of Safe and Inclusive Programming approach of NRC (i.e. notably support and capacity-building to all staff).
  • Support the implementation of protection and gender assessments with the refugee community (SIP programme-related community assessments), at assessment, monitoring and evaluation level.
  • Develop and contextualise SIP assessment and monitoring tools.
  • Support the development user-friendly referral pathways for actors working with refugees, IDPs and host communities including location specific mapping of service providers in different refugee, IDP and Host communities.
  • Implement assigned and conform the implementation of activities in line with international standards and best practices.
  • Support in developing and disseminating SIP assessment and monitoring reports to external stakeholders to inform SIP programming in Amhara IDP, refugee camps and host communities.
  • Development of information sharing and data protection protocols in collaboration with relevant coordination forums

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience from working with SIP, protection/ gender or risk mitigation on Officer level in a humanitarian/recovery context.
  • BA degree in law, sociology, social work, international development from a recognized institution.
  • Good knowledge of English both written and spoken
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • A firm grounding in program activity Monitoring and Evaluation,
  • Strong proposal and project report-writing and team building experience and skills.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • Knowledge of the protection or SIP context (gaps and needs) in Amhara IDP, host community and Refugee settlements.
