Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for an Safety Assistant (Radio Operator) to join our team in Kyiv. The role is expected to working shifts (including night shifts).

The overall purpose of the role:

You will monitor and record all movement of DRC vehicles and staff, as well as to monitor information networks and update local alert groups in a timely way. You will follows the security situation within the relevant area of operation, forwards information on any changes to the security situation to the safety Department, and always maintains a high level of alertness and discipline.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Collecting daily operation location reports from relevant team leader/s.
  • Convey messages in a timely manner to the relevant persons.
  • Monitor proven information networks.
  • Follow up the movement of the vehicles and staff at the operations area allocated.
  • Brief line manager, Area manger and head of safety immediately in the events of: change in the security situation; vehicle or property breaks down involving DRC; any other unforeseen urgent important matter.
  • Priorities the action on messages and calls received according to the nature of urgency.
  • Brief Safety Managers of any vehicle convoys, staff movement, and issues related to the operations room equipment at the end of a daily shift.
  • Maintain levels of confidentiality with regards to the information received on staff movements and operations.
  • In close collaboration with support services, provide plans for transportation along with driver schedules, ensuring the vehicle equipment are in right place and in good conditions as well as facilitating safe transportation for all staff.
  • GPS tracking systems are monitored as appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, ensure DRC vehicle tracking devices are active before any movement is authorized.
  • Ensure all messages received are relayed immediately.
  • Regularly monitor the email account.
  • Update the contact list database for all DRC staff in the area.
  • Perform any other tasks as instructed by the line manager, area manager and Head of Safety.

About you:

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 2 years of relevant experience and the ability to prioritise a number of tasks and work calmly under pressure.

Moreover, we also expect English language skills at the level of comfortable communication with a native speaker.

We offer:

  • Contract length: One-year contract depending on performance and funding after successful completion of 3 months’ probation period.
  • Band: I – non-management.
  • Designation of Duty Station: Kyiv.
  • Start date: November 2024.
