World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Senior Accounting Specialist

Major Function

The Senior Accounting Specialist performs a variety of accounting activities, including monthly bank reconciliations, performs the daily cash flow analysis, monitors the bank and credit card accounts, processes the daily deposits on specific dates and reviews, approves, and posts accruals, receivables, and journal entry reclassifications.

Responsibilities

Performs the monthly reconciliations for nine (9) bank and ten (10) ledger accounts including cash, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, receivables, and payroll liabilities, and prepares any needed entries. The reconciliation processes include reviewing and investigating transactions to ensure the integrity of information. Works with staff and external partners to resolve the reconciliation variances and discrepancies. Recommends necessary updates to Bank and Accounting system integrations.

Performs the monthly downloads and archiving of all Bank and Merchant statements for use by the Accounting and Auditing team. Identifies and processes monthly entries for Merchant and bank fees. Maintains a list of all authorized US bank signatories.

Accountable for researching and responding to internal staff inquiries regarding financial bank transactions.

Monitors all returned fund transfers and notifies the AP Team on a timely basis for resolution. Follows up with the AP and AR teams on any unreconciled items. Processes fees charged on return transactions.

Reviews and approves reclassification journal entries submitted by staff. Creates and documents process procedures for bank reconciliations and other ledger accounts.

Performs the daily cash analysis, updates and distributes the daily cash sheet that details cash requirements for business and proposes transfers, with a high level of review for the HQ operating, mortgage, and payroll and benefits accounts. Monitors account balances and recommends funds transfers between accounts in order maintain appropriate fund balance and to maximize interest earned.

Review and compiles mail while in the office on your scheduled days. Deposits physical checks that are received in the mail.

Coordinates and communicates the monthly and yearly closing deadlines to all staff, along with the closing checklist.

Creates and documents process procedures for bank reconciliations and other ledger accounts.

Support the compilation of audit lead schedules and is responsible for responding to all audit inquiries for WWF US bank accounts.

Performs other duties as assigned. Occasionally performs other general accounting and office tasks to support the smooth operation of the accounting department and to support other departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 -6 years of experience preferably in Accounting or Business, with a concentration in accounting or equivalent experience is required.
  • Must have demonstrated reconciliation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate complex issues both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and produce high-quality work under time constraints.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, and to meet deadlines and commitments.
  • Proficient in Excel and experience with Workday Financials Accounting System are strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that requires knowing when to use courtesy, tact and/or diplomacy to effectively communicate with all constituents.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage a multitude of details simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, and work effectively independently and as part of a team environment.
