This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment. We also offer relocation support.

The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate (GCS) – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO) – Data & Information Solutions Department (DIS) – Data Management Division (DM) – Analytics & Reporting Solutions Unit (A&R) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) AI Engineer*.

This is a full-time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract (an 80% part-time could be accommodated).

Purpose

You want to be part of our AI innovation lab to build the future cutting-edge AI solutions contributing to the achievement of EIB’s objectives. As a member of our lab, you will have the opportunity to promote the latest advancements in the AI industry and deliver AI-powered solutions across various business domains.

Operating Network

You will report directly to the Head of Unit and collaborate with a diverse and talented team of researchers, engineers and analysts who share the same passion and enthusiasm.

Accountabilities

  • Establish a governance framework with the users’ community to ensure an effective use of the AI solutions & services within the organisation. Monitor its applicability’s and propose improvements to maximize the value.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business challenges and opportunities where AI solutions can provide strategic value within the banking domain.
  • Design and conduct experiments to validate model performance, accuracy, and robustness, ensuring the highest quality of AI solutions.
  • Analyse business specifications, implement and deploy machine learning models and AI algorithms to extract insights, enhance decision-making processes, and automate tasks in accordance with the IT policies.
  • Build AI-powered solutions using MLOps platform
  • Lead the development of architectures for deploying ML/AI/GenAI solutions
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate AI solutions seamlessly into existing IT landscape and processes.
  • Manage maintenance and support activities, either directly or through external teams, to provide best quality services.
  • Act as technical expert in AI field and provide specific matter expertise and a specialised advice on the subject.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines such AI Act and data security standards while handling sensitive customer information.
  • Manage contracts with external suppliers (software vendors and service providers) aiming for optimal quality and value.
  • Stay abreast with advancements in AI, machine learning, and data science within the financial industry, applying relevant innovations to our projects.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Data Science, Information Technology or related quantitative field
  • At least 5 years of IT professional experience with solid background in building and deploying ML/AI/GenAI solutions ideally gained in the financial services sector
  • Hands-on experience in designing and implementing end-users AI solutions using Microsoft Azure and AzureML, or similar cloud platforms
  • Experience in front-end web application development such as Next.js or/and React
  • Strong Python programming experience with machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, XGboost, Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch, SpaCy or similar
  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
  • Proficiency in Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Airflow, PySpark would be an asset
  • Familiarity with banking and financial data structures, as well as an understanding of regulatory requirements and challenges within the industry would be an advantage
  • Good knowledge of project management principles, methods, and practices
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*), with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage).

(*) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
