Position Overview

United to Beat Malaria’s Sr. Communications and Digital Media Associate will partner with the campaign’s Sr. Officer of Communications and Digital MGedia to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the United to Beat Malaria Campaign.

The Senior Associate will spearhead the maintenance, development, and data metrics of the campaign’s website, social media, and other platforms, working closely with the Sr. Officer, and provides communications support to deliver on the campaign’s brand, advocacy, donor, and partnership objectives.
We seek someone who is high energy, has excellent organizational and communication skills, and has the experience and passion to work across a diverse communications portfolio. A successful Sr. Associate will value close collaboration with Team members but will also be self-motivated and able to work independently.

This position is an integral part of a supportive and close-knit team devoted to crafting and delivering best-in-class communications to further the campaign’s goal of raising awareness, voices, and funds towards the fight to protect families around the world from malaria and eradicate this disease within this generation. United to Beat Malaria’s Sr. Communications and Digital Media Associate reports to the campaign’s Sr. Officer of Communications and Digital Media. This position works closely with team members across the United to Beat Malaria portfolio to include team members responsible for global health, advocacy, partnerships, and development.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. (Hybrid schedule)

Essential Functions

  • Support the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the campaign’s brand, advocacy, donor, and partner objectives.
  • Work closely with the Sr. Officer of Communications and director-level members of the Campaign to develop long-term communications strategies, including content development and dissemination, audience expansion, new platforms, search engine optimization, and more.
  • Support the maintenance, post-development and dissemination, and data tracking across United to Beat Malaria’s social media networks.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of paid advertising campaigns across social media and Google ads.
  • Manage the maintenance and search engine optimization of the campaign’s new website, while also integrating new content and design elements as part of the website’s multi-phase transition, working closely with the UN Foundation’s IT team and team members across the campaign.
  • Develop dynamic, static, and informational graphics as needed by the campaign’s advocacy, global health, and fundraising teams; and/or for social media and website purposes.
  • Produce and edit short informational and storytelling videos for social media, working in collaboration with the Sr. Communications Officer to storyboard the content and create a dissemination strategy.
  • Develop landing pages, advocacy petitions, and other online forms that are integrated into the campaign’s website.
  • Assist the Sr. Communications Officer and other team members with expanding and maintaining an active and engaged email and text supporter, donor, partner list.
  • Assist Sr. Communications Officer with outreach and engagement of media/press and influencers, including conducting press outreach, writing op-eds, press releases, press kits, talking points, toolkits, and blog posts.
  • Assist Sr. Communications Officer with the curation of storytelling assets (video, photos, champion, and beneficiaries’ stories) from United to Beat Malaria impact countries.
  • Assist Sr. Communications Officer with developing and disseminating communications deliverables for corporate, foundation, and global health partners.
  • Attend, support, and cover live and virtual events.
  • Monitor and share key strategic communications and digital industry standards and trends with the team.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in communications and digital media, in publishing or media outlet, at a PR agency, or NGO setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with global humanitarian issues, global health challenges and/or malaria preferred.
  • Experience maintaining and managing organizational social networking accounts in coordination with campaign online communications and strategy (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
  • Experience with Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Apps strongly preferred.
  • Experience producing and editing video content strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with email marketing platforms (e.g., EveryAction preferred), CRM (Salesforce preferred), and CMS platforms (WordPress preferred).
  • Experience writing press releases, op-eds, and editorial content for a brand, organization, or thought leader.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team to identify, explore and implement creative communications initiatives.
  • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations — team-oriented; problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in global health, international development, and/or United Nations.
