The salary range for this position is $59,000-$69,000.
Position Overview
The Better World Campaign (BWC) works to foster a strong, effective relationship between the United States and the United Nations to promote core American interests and build a more secure, prosperous, and healthy world. BWC engages policymakers, the media, and the American public alike to increase awareness of the critical role played by the UN in world affairs and the importance of constructive U.S.-UN relations. The Senior Associate, Legislative Program, will assist with managing the implementation of the Better World Campaign legislative agenda, advocacy work, and communications.
This position is based in Washington, DC. (Hybrid Schedule)
Essential Function
Contribute to developing and executing a comprehensive legislative agenda and strategy to support BWC’s mission and related programmatic goals under the direction of the Executive Director of the Better World Campaign.
- Track relevant hearings, legislation, and legislative initiatives in Congress; provides background and suggested questions to Hill staff for UN related hearings.
- Assist with crafting the annual Congressional Briefing Book.
- Research and draft fact sheets/policy briefs/brochures to highlight compelling examples of UN work and importance of U.S.-UN relationship.
- Review UNA-USA materials and fact sheets for accuracy.
- Prepare speeches/talking points/blog posts for BWC events.
- Assist the Communications team with updating and editing the Better World Campaign website.
- Attend meetings between senior leadership congressional offices.
- Contribute to fostering and building new relationships in support of BWC’s legislative agenda.
- Provided administrative support to senior leadership for meetings with U.S. and UN officials.
- Other responsibilities and tasks, as necessary.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in the fields of political science, international affairs, or communications.
- Three or more years of experience in legislative affairs, international relations or a related field required.
- Excellent oral, research and writing skills.
- Hill experience or government relations experience encouraged.
- Strong organizational skills and understanding of administrative processes essential.
- Team player willing to assist where needed.
- Experience with website design and Microsoft Access and Excel preferred.
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
- Ability to work manage competing priorities in a rapid pace work environment.
