JOB DETAIL

Overview

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries, while strengthening the capabilities of governments and the private sector in those countries to create and sustain high-quality health systems that can succeed without our assistance. For more information, please visit: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to providing an environment of fairness, and mutual respect where all applicants have access to equal employment opportunities. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, and recognizes that our mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people with diverse experience, backgrounds, and culture.

Overview of CHAI’s Vaccines Program

To ensure all children have access to effective and affordable immunization, addressing the main causes of child mortality, CHAI’s Vaccines Markets Team works with vaccine manufacturers, Gavi and other global stakeholders to improve availability, affordability, and diversity of supply for existing and future Gavi vaccines. In doing this, CHAI is applying the techniques it has used successfully to improve access to HIV/AIDS and malaria treatment: improving market demand transparency for individual suppliers and working closely with these suppliers to optimize their commercial, costing and pricing strategies in low- and middle-income markets. In doing so, this ensures the availability of vaccines at affordable yet commercially sustainable prices. The pandemic context has only reinforced the importance of CHAI’s Vaccines Markets team’s work.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

The Vaccines Markets team is seeking a Senior Associate to support partner- and supplier-facing engagements, with a focus on accelerating the go-to-market of novel antigens. The Senior Associate will identify key market risks for those novel antigens and define and execute relevant market-shaping interventions in collaboration with partners. Over time, the Senior Associate will support further strategic initiatives, e.g., improving tiered pricing strategies to enhance vaccine affordability in Middle Income Countries, conceptualizing market-shaping approaches for antigen markets facing higher uncertainty and volatility, etc. This will require extensive collaboration across CHAI’s vaccine program team and country teams, as well as external partners (e.g., Gavi, BMGF, UNICEF, WHO, CEPI, Linksbridge).

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding analytical, conceptual, communication and teamwork skills. The successful candidate will adhere to the core CHAI values of resourcefulness, entrepreneurialism, flexibility, independence, humility, and work ethic. The Senior Associate will report to the Program Manager, Vaccine Markets Team.

Responsibilities could include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop an understanding of global market dynamics and lead the development of market-shaping interventions for novel vaccines by providing analyses, sharing insights and technical know-how with suppliers, governments and partners (incl. bilateral supplier engagements) as well as conceptualizing innovative financing tools
  • Cultivate relationships with operational counterparts working at donors, global health partners, vaccine procurers and vaccine manufacturers
  • Lead workstreams in the preparation of presentations, reports, and other analyses to inform global policy and increase the evidence base for high-impact interventions
  • Support scoping of projects that could contribute to further improving supply sustainability and accessibility of vaccines for LMICs, g., tiered pricing strategies to enhance vaccine affordability in Middle Income Countries
  • Support strategic initiatives at the global ecosystem level, e.g., understanding key market-shaping trends and defining market-shaping best practices for different antigen segments
  • Support the development of concept notes and new projects
  • Any other duties as required
