Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of the post is to support the Head, Cloud and Platform Service Unit (OPDA) in Cloud Operations activities within the Cloud Services Section (OPD), including the implementation and on-going support of cloud services in AWS for UNICC and its clients. The Senior AWS Cloud Technician will act as the main technical focal point for AWS services, providing expert support and advice on all technology and processes related to the AWS management activities.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Head, Cloud Operations and Platform Services Unit (OPDA) within the Operations Division (OP) and in close collaboration with the Cloud Services team. The incumbent could be requested to do any others tasks of similar level in related fields. The incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Provide expert hands-on support to the design, build, implementation, and delivery of AWS solutions, with a focus on AWS IaaS and PaaS
  • Review technical and business functional requirements in order to propose relevant AWS cloud platforms and infrastructures
  • Execute assessment, migration and implementation plans to deploy optimized AWS infrastructures and move workloads to AWS, using native AWS migration or third-party tools
  • In consultation with the Head, OPDA, actively seek solutions to the needs of internal and external customers
  • Communicate trends to management and under appropriate guidance drive product improvements in the field of AWS
  • Support the development and implementation of governance plans, security and compliance controls
  • Implement, promote and adhere to relevant cloud and governance standards and policies
  • Prepare technical documentation and related procedures and operations
  • Coordinate and supervise the daily work of team members, including setting up of work plans, monitoring progress, providing regular feedback, technical guidance and support; nurture a motivating work environment
  • Work in close collaboration with other UNICC technical teams including Information Security, Architecture, Service Management, etc., to deliver AWS solutions
  • Propose opportunities to optimize existing processes and tools to improve internal efficiency and customers satisfaction
  • Keep abreast of AWS good practices, new trends and services technologies and evaluate these for possible adoption or incorporation
  • Provide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant IT experience, including significant experience supporting public cloud services. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards the minimum work experience requirements Extensive experience in the definition and implementation of patching processes
  • Hands-on experience on Infrastructure as Code (Cloudformation, Terraform)
  • Proven experience working with customers on Cloud specific solutions and deployments
  • Solid automation experience using Python, Ruby, Go, etc. or AWS CLI
  • Proven experience in analyzing and balancing facts, priorities, resources, constraints and alternatives to make recommendations
  • Knowledge and experience of Linux and Microsoft Technology landscape
  • Proven experience in analyzing and balancing facts, priorities, resources, constraints and alternatives to make recommendations
  • Proficient on core IaaA and PaaS AWS and GCP services
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge on configuration management and provisioning tools like Puppet or Ansible, including building playbooks and roles from scratch in different Public Cloud providers
  • Solid understanding of AWS Account Structure, Core Organization Services and IAM
  • Knowledge of general architecture, deployment and administration methodologies and techniques including systems configurations, clustering, networking, OS administration (Windows/Linux), monitoring, security, etc.
  • Proven experience in analyzing and balancing facts, priorities, resources, constraints and alternatives to make recommendations

Desirable:

  • Knowledge about application development practices and tools (CI/CD)
  • Understanding of UNICC products and services
  • Conceptual and hands-on knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure Services
  • Hands-on knowledge of Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools

Education*:

Essential:

  • Graduation from secondary school supplemented by training in IT

Desirable:

  • AWS Certification
  • Service Management qualification, such as ITIL or ISO 20000 is desirable

Languages:

  • Expert knowledge of English is required
  • Intermediate knowledge of Spanish is desirable

Eligibility:

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Valencia: EUR 50,526
