The EIB, the European Union’s bank is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO), Digital Transformation Office Division (DTO), Enterprise Architecture Unit (EA), at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Business Architect*.

This is a full-time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

As a Business Architect, you will play an integral role in building a holistic understanding of the Bank. You will partner with the business, IT and governance teams to ensure that proposed solutions/innovation align with the Bank’s overall objectives providing architectural guidance. You will be a bridge between business and technology domain.

Operating Network

The role of the Enterprise Architecture Unit is to support the EIB Group to convert traditional businesses and ways of working to digital ones, using the potential of modern technologies and data. The aim is to establish a comprehensive business transformation strategy, synchronised with operational imperatives, and aligned with the overarching Digital strategy and vision. It ensures alignment in the strategic transformation journey while maintaining a consistent architecture.

It facilitates the discussions between the Value Chains (VC) and platforms and support and monitor the Value Chains in their business processes optimisation, the delivery of solutions and activation of innovation.

In this position, you would report directly to the Head of Unit.

Accountabilities

  • Plan and design a business architecture strategy and drive the development and implementation of the business architecture approach and methodology based on market trends and best practices
  • Drive discussions with the stakeholders to discover business capabilities in connection to current and future business objectives.
  • Build and maintain business capability, and liaise/collaborate with the respective owners to support the documentation of the data, process, and technology inventories, and collaborate functional teams to gather and record the company’s business and technological environment
  • Analyse and contextualise strategy for operational needs,
  • Create, own and maintain specialised artifacts like business capability maps to bridge the gap between strategy and execution, and streamlines and rationalise the enablement process
  • Improve the business capability map using a maturity / optimisation framework to allow the longer-term roadmap’s implementation
  • Propose recommendations and solutions and drive the adoption of “best practices” to ensure standardization of business architecture outputs across the Bank and to meet the business needs
  • Lead as a subject matter expert and act as a change owner in order to introduce different approaches in the Business Architecture area
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and developments

Qualifications

  • University degree, the exposure to data modelling, business analysis and information architecture subjects would be an advantage
  • At least 5 years relevant professional experience in business architecture/ business capability assessments with a good understanding of IT landscapes
  • Experience with business process modelling, enterprise architecture, and associated tools (e.g. heat maps, value chains
  • Good understanding of global financial/banking organisations, including their strategy, activities, and processes will be an advantage
  • Ability to conceptualize and design high-level models that can help in future analysis to remodel the business architecture
  • Certification in an Enterprise Architecture Framework will be an advantage (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman, Gartner Enterprise Architecture Process Model)
  • Knowledge of Agile methods and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) will be an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*), with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

(*) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support.
