The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is looking for an experienced Capacity Building and Training (CBT) Economist or Specialist to produce and deliver sustainable development policy CBT events, knowledge products, and other activities for government officials from Asian Development Bank (ADB) member economies and stakeholders. This is a Level C (senior) or Level D professional (international) staff position, based on ADBI standards, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Identify sustainable development policy challenges and capacity building and training needs for government officials from ADB member economies and stakeholders, in-line with ADBI priorities and focus areas
  • Develop and implement related training workshops, policy dialogues, conferences, and other CBT events
  • Develop training materials, training needs assessments and evaluations, and knowledge products, such as case studies, manuals, handbooks, policy briefs, and e-learning courses
  • Present at CBT events and both leverage and build strong working relationships and networks among policy makers, experts from think tanks, universities, and international organizations, colleagues from ADB, and others
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual CBT work program and budget
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned by the ADBI Deputy Dean or Dean

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (PhD desirable, but not required) in a discipline related to socioeconomic development.
  • At least 7-8 years relevant experience (10-12 for senior position), preferably in an international or regional organization, or government agency working on economic development issues, capacity building and training, knowledge management, economic research, and policy analysis
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills related to development policy and capacity building
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation of multilateral and/or international development organizations will be an advantage
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in written and oral English

This is a special fixed term staff position based in Tokyo for an initial term of 3 years. At ADBI’s sole option, the appointment may be extended on an exceptional basis for a further fixed term (generally up to 2 years). Conversion into a regular indefinite appointment is precluded. A special fixed term appointment will automatically and without prior notice expire at the end of the original or extended term.

ADBI offers an internationally competitive compensation package based in US Dollars (paid in Japanese yen). Salaries and expatriate benefits are generally free of tax except for citizens of some countries.
