JOB PURPOSE

The Climate Campaigner coordinates and advises on project activities, campaigning, and communication initiatives on the Climate Crisis and Human Rights, promoting amplification and impact of the work of the Climate Justice Team with the Amnesty International movement.

ABOUT YOU

As an experienced campaigner with specialist knowledge on climate justice, you will have knowledge of leading and implementing global campaigns with an excellent understanding of strategic campaigning methodologies. You will have experience of representing an organisation in a variety of forums, with strong interpersonal skills including advocacy, negotiating and influencing skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex information in a concise manner to a variety of audiences.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of an ambitious global climate justice campaign, drawing on Amnesty research;
  • Support the development of regional and local campaign strategies, ensuring campaigns identify and take advantage of political opportunities and result in positive human rights change
  • Undertake campaign-related research and analysis regarding targets, tactics, activities and the external environment
  • Draft, review and advise on campaign materials for internal and external use, ensuring products are coherent within the campaign strategy, and communicate campaign messages to target audiences effectively resulting in action by these targets
  • Monitor and analyse political, human rights and civil society developments internationally to make recommendations for campaign development, actions and ongoing work in pursuit of campaign objectives

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional experience of campaigning, including experience of strategic planning, developing campaigning objectives, monitoring their implementation; mobilizing diverse actors to a common goal.
  • Experience of undertaking research and/or advocacy on human rights and climate change.
  • Experience of coordinating competing demands and diverse actors or members into a cohesive campaign – experience in coordinating thematic networks would be advantageous.
  • Specialist knowledge of climate justice.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to express ideas in a clear and compelling manner in English both orally and in writing, and to communicate complex information and institutional positions in an accurate yet concise way.
