The EIB, the European Union’s bank is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO), Platforms & Services Department (P&S), Infrastructure Services Division (IS), Network & Data Centres Unit (NDC) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Data Centre Solution Architect*.

This is a full-time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Panel interviews are anticipated for September 2023.

Purpose

You will orchestrate the technology roadmap’s design and execution and supervise the daily operations for the following services: virtualisation platform, backup and recovery platform, data rooms, hardware and software procurement for data centres, operations of data centres, and infrastructure tools.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Network & Data Centres Unit and coordinate approximatively 15 consultants (engineers, technicians) for daily operations.

Accountabilities

  • Lead technology roadmap, design, and implementation for data centre technologies (virtualisation platforms based on hyperconverged solutions and backup and recovery solutions) in order to provide EIB with best in class and secure data centre technologies services.
  • Lead data centre design activities for projects supporting the various IT infrastructure peer domains including end user computing and information security.
  • Oversee lab tests, proofs-of-concept and other technical evaluations to keep EIB data centre services up to date.
  • Guide project teams through the implementation phase, operating and maintaining data rooms, virtualisation platforms, as well as the backup and recovery running on the EIB’s infrastructure.
  • Leverage technology to automate manual tasks, and seek to improve efficiency.
  • Resolve incidents in coordination with the EIB Incident and Problem Manager.
  • Comply with, enforce, and communicate policies, standards and procedures and actively propose ideas of improvement and optimisation for the existing processes and services in line with IT infrastructure policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT Security regarding hardware and software vulnerabilities (related to data centre services), keeping up to date on key vulnerabilities and risks, and addressing these with management if necessary.
  • Act as Contract Manager for assigned framework contracts related to Data Centre scope.

Qualifications

  • University degree preferably in computer science or related discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience in the IT infrastructure area.
  • Proven experience and strong knowledge of data centre related technologies (virtualisation (VMware), hyperconverged solutions, backup and recovery).
  • Experience working with DELL-EMC or Veritas solutions would be considered as an asset.
  • Experience working with public cloud and hybrid infrastructure would be an advantage.
  • Experience or proven ability of guiding teams to deliver IT infrastructure and data centre services.
  • Experience designing and/or troubleshooting infrastructure issues and providing first-class customer service.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of IT market trends and developments.
  • Broad understanding of IT infrastructure, IT applications, architecture and orchestration/monitoring/automation tools.
  • Understanding of procurement and service contracts, including procuring software, hardware and services in a public sector environment would be considered as an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written English and/or French(*) language skills and a good command of the other.

(*) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
