The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO), Data & Information Solutions Department (DIS), Data Management Division (DM), Data Warehouse Solutions Unit (DWS) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Data Warehouse Platform Engineer*. This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. This is a full-time time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

You will drive the technical management of various applications and solutions in the domain of Data Warehouse solutions, including architecture design and optimisation, support, incident, change, release, and maintenance activities. Be part of the cloud journey of the EIB Group by modernizing our platforms.

Operating Network

The Data Warehouse Solutions Unit maintains a set of data extraction and reporting applications and manages related projects. It provides a wide range of technical services to ensure that the various applications under the responsibility of the unit are scalable, available, reliable and offer optimal performance.

You will report to the Head of Data Warehouse Solutions Unit and will be the main contact in the team for other IT Divisions/Units and the user community.

Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the definition of an IT strategy related to the Group Data Warehouse and the associated policies and procedures with a special focus on infrastructure and software areas
  • Define a unified approach for developing the Data Warehouse/Data Lake infrastructure and feeding downstream applications
  • Participate in the global definition of Data Warehouse/Data Lake architecture principles, policies, and the application of industry best practices
  • Coordinate the various infrastructure and access management tasks, in collaboration with the central IT infrastructure and security teams
  • Ensure that the technical development and maintenance of Group Data Warehouse/Data Lake related projects are in full compliance with EIBG infrastructure and software standards and industry best practices
  • Autonomously develop and maintain applications in the scope of the Data Warehouse Solutions Unit
  • Provide timely support services, expert specific advice and recommendations on Data Warehouse Solutions in the assigned functional area

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Information Technology, Mathematics, Finance or related fields
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the maintenance of data warehouse/data lake tools
  • Good knowledge of database management systems including monitoring and performance tuning (Sybase ASE & IQ, Oracle)
  • Strong technical knowledge in administration of ETL tools (such as IBM Infosphere Datastage, Talend, Informatica) and reporting tools (SAP Business Objects Suite or equivalent)
  • Experience working with Linux environments. Windows experience would be considered as an advantage
  • Experience using scripting languages: Powershell and/or Bash
  • Excellent knowledge of project management principles, methods and practices
  • ITIL/ITSM experience in Change, Release, Incident and Problem Management would be an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (**), with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage).

As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
