Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. THE ROLE

The Senior Executive Officer, Executive Office works under the Chief of Staff and is an important member of the Executive Office team dividing their time supporting the CEO and CPSO. 2023 is a pivotal year for the Gavi as it works to deliver on its 5.1 strategy to reach zero-dose children and missed communities, engages in a major push on HPV vaccine rollout, starts rolling out malaria vaccine, and works with countries to integrate COVID-19 vaccination for high-risk populations into their primary healthcare systems. Delivering on this aspiration will require innovation and continuous improvement in the policies, programmes and operating model of the Alliance. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Programme Strategy Officer (CPSO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) are responsible for overseeing the strategy and performance of the Alliance.

The Executive Office team supports the CEO, CPSO and COO including by:

• Supporting their engagement with Secretariat teams and ensuring follow-up;
• Prioritising and managing their time;
• Supporting key leadership bodies and processes;
• Preparing and reviewing briefings, presentations and other materials for external engagement;
• Providing administrative, secretarial and logistical support;
• Supporting EO-led projects and work-streams as required.

 

 

The Senior Executive Officer, as a central member of the EO team, and working with business teams, will:
• Provide direct support to the CEO, CPSO and Chief of Staff;
• Prepare and/or contribute to power point presentations, written reports and talking points for the CEO and CPSO as required;
• Prepare and/or contribute to high-quality briefing materials for use by CEO and CPSO;
• Plan and coordinate (with Chief of Staff and Secretariat leadership) strategic engagement and representational commitments of Gavi CEO and CPSO;
• Support the CPSO in co-chairing the Gavi Programme Leadership Team, cross-team content alignment and support for the Policy and Programme Committee, and on other high priority responsibilities;
• Ensure rigorous follow up and tracking of high priority or sensitive issues on behalf of the Executive Office;
• Conduct research and strategic analysis for CEO, CPSO and Chief of Staff;
• Support CEO and CPSO to strategically engage with senior level counterparts (e.g., Alliance Board, partners, donors, influencers) and expand stakeholder network;
• Help to ensure systematic and prompt follow-up on incoming communications to CEO;
• Help ensure robust cross-EO information-sharing and alignment, including through contributing to improved knowledge management and operational processes;
• Conduct special projects and additional duties, including backing up other members of EO team as required.

• Minimum of 8 years of progressive professional experience, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience of managing multiple projects within a fast-moving and complex environment;
• Two to 3 years’ experience at a management consulting firm managing complex data sets for health-related clients is preferred;
• Proven track record working closely as a trusted support to CEOs and other C-suite level executives;
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with ability to use data to tell a compelling story;
• Proven track record of strategic analysis and project management, including for executive leadership;
• Extensive experience of preparing communications materials, including speeches, presentations and written communications;
• Demonstrated ability to build excellent rapport with C-suite level management and their external counterparts and be tactful and discreet;
• Experience/and/or understanding of global public health and immunisation highly desirable;
• Demonstrated knowledge of how to influence stakeholders and manage stakeholder engagement;
• Experience of working within a multi-cultural environment.

• Distinctive written and oral communication skills in English, including ability to structure and synthesise complex issues;
• Fast learner with ability to multitask effectively while maintaining their sense of humour;
• Organised, pro-active and pragmatic with excellent process management skills;
• Ability to prioritise and work under pressure and to deadlines including
• High degree of flexibility and team-oriented, willing to adapt to new priorities and jump in as needed;
• Well-honed interpersonal skills and ability to establish excellent rapport, including in a remote environment, with counterparts at all levels including senior decision-makers;
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment, while also being able to operate autonomously;
• Understanding of design and ability to develop compelling presentations;
• Tactful and discrete.

 

 

• Fluency in written and spoken English;
• Fluency in French highly desirable;
• Knowledge of additional languages an asset.

 

 

• University degree in a STEM-related field, public health, public administration, development or similar;
• Advanced degree preferable.
