Job Description

Wanted: A passionate professional to support families to improve their parenting skills, capacity and effectiveness through the provision of information sessions, group work, formal parenting programs, one-on-one consultations and referrals to specialist agencies within the Perth Metro South East Corridor.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights, so that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this part time, maximum-term position (15.2 hours per week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, through to June 2025) based in Armadale, you’ll deliver a parenting service to families living in the South-East Corridor in partnership with Communicare Inc. Working directly with Aboriginal families, you’ll aim to support their parenting needs and increase their parenting skills and knowledge. As part of our Perth Metro team, you’ll report to our Youth and Family Support Services Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Supporting parents in their parenting role either individually or in group settings, using partnership, strengths-based and family-centred approaches
  • Facilitating group processes and family-focused events that are welcoming
  • Building and maintaining strong networks and service delivery partnerships for the delivery of group activities and effective referral pathways
  • Providing accessible evidence-based parenting information and education material
  • Collecting and recording data and information for the purpose of accountability, evaluation and reporting requirements

Does this sound like you?

You have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and an understanding of the specific parenting issues they may face. You have demonstrated experience using a partnership, strengths-based and family centred approach, and you have a solid understanding of the importance of the early years and the impact of parenting styles on child wellbeing. You have a strong understanding of local agencies where you’ll refer families who require assistance outside the scope of the service or who require more intensive support.

This role requires:

  • Experience providing parenting support to families from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background
  • Diploma in Social Welfare, Community Services, Health or allied areas would be preferred, or significant relevant experience
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust with families and establish community networks
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating group work and workshops
  • Demonstrated cultural competence

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is around 700 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development. Our leave provisions include personal, ceremonial and family violence leave as well as the ability to purchase additional leave.
