Job Summary
Corporate Services and Facilities Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has an opening for a Senior Facilities Officer who will proactively provide oversight of the Facilities Division’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs, initiatives, and operational requirements related to safety, hazardous materials, indoor air quality, and environmental compliance. The selected candidate is expected to coordinate with staff, contractual, and vendor employees to deter impacts to business continuity and staff safety and health. The selected candidate will also serve as the subject matter expert to resolve EHS issues and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of vendor delivered and managed EHS services and programs.
- Manage and coordinate EHS third-party vendor contract services.
- Develop and implement environmental health and safety policies, procedures and programs in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations applicable to commercial office buildings include OSHA construction standards.
- Collaborate with facility managers, project managers, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to assess safety needs, develop site-specific safety plans, and implement effective safety measures.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the facilities and construction projects, equipment, and processes to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and ensure compliance with safety and environment standards.
- Provide oversight and coordinate the implementation of environmental quality controls, testing and investigations for indoor air quality, and water hygiene programs.
- Review, validate, and provide feedbacks on internal and third-party studies, assessments, reports consultants. Provide technical guidance & recommendation to prevent and minimize environment, safety, and business continuity impact to building occupants.
- Provide EHS SME guidance to project managers during the planning and execution of capital and operational projects which includes work approvals, recommendations, process validation.
- Conduct environmental site investigations/assessments including asbestos, indoor air quality and microbial.
- Develop and coordinate reports, summaries, briefing slides, and bullet point papers on EHS issues, findings, and research.
- Plan and implement, orientations, environmental awareness campaign and training for staff.
- Monitor and report key safety and environmental performance metrics to management.
- Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and exercises to ensure readiness and effective response to incidents.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety inspections, incidents, training and regulatory compliance.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, construction, and relevant regulatory changes related to environmental health and safety and incorporate new developments in programs and practices.
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective measures following incidents, near misses or safety violations in conjunction with other stakeholders.
- May act as assigned liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, and other stakeholders on matters related to environmental health and safety compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in Health and Safety Management, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, or a related area, supplemented by a minimum of four years of professional experience in Real Estate, Facilities, Hospitality or Design and Construction field, or equivalent; or bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety Management, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of ten years professional experience in Real Estate, Facilities, Hospitality, or Design and Construction field, is required.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, OSHA certifications) are desirable.
Preferred Experience/Knowledge
- Proven experience in health and safety, environment management in a corporate office setting.
- Work experience or knowledge with an international institution is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations and analyze data.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
This is a two-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent’s performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
