Organizational Setting

This position is located in the Waveform Analysis Unit 1 of the Monitoring and Data Analysis Section, International Data Centre Division (IDC).

Reporting Lines

Under the supervision of Chief, Monitoring and Data Analysis Section, to:

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform regular interactive analysis of waveform technology data to detect, locate and characterize events as required;
2. Initiate, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate plans for the enhancement of procedures, rules and guidelines for the work of Waveform Analysts;
3. Advise the Chief on the coordination and optimization of schedules for Waveform Analysts to ensure efficient and timely production of reviewed IDC products in waveform technologies;
4. Provide guidance, training and coaching to Waveform Analysts in order to ensure an appropriate level of quality, process standardization, and performance cohesion, and adherence to the procedure and standards in the Unit;
5. Coordinate with Software Applications Section (IDC/SA) to support testing and evaluation of the IDC applications software;
6. Liaise with Capacity Building and Training Section (IDC/CBT) in the support provided to trainees from States Signatories;
7. Collaborate with the Operation Section (IDC/OPS), IMS/MFS and IMS/ED sections to support station testing;
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

• Advanced university degree in physics, geophysics, seismology, acoustics or a related field.

Work Experience and Qualifications

• At least seven years of relevant working experience in the monitoring and analysis of complex waveform data related to at least one of the following technologies: seismic, hydroacoustic or infrasound;
• Solid knowledge and experience of current interactive computer analysis systems;
• Proven ability to prioritize, plan and organize, and coordinate the work of others;
• Strong ability to lead projects and work collaboratively with stakeholders.

Languages

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
• Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.
