WHY JOIN WFP?
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The escalation of hostilities since 7 October in Gaza, has resulted in the disruption of electricity, food, water, and fuel supplies, as well as restricted access to and movement within Gaza. This has caused a significant worsening of the humanitarian crisis and a large-scale displacement of the population within Gaza. Due to the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis, the significant impact on the supply chain and the access challenges to and inside Gaza, humanitarian organizations face significant logistics challenges for the delivery of relief supplies and life-saving cargo.
WFP has established supply chain corridors and delivery mechanisms to deliver food assistance into Gaza, including Jordan corridor. WFP is establishing required staffing structure to best support the operational needs and to deliver assistance into Gaza through all possible means.
Under the supervision of the Jordan Corridor Manager, the incumbent will provide specialized support in coordinating the Jordan corridor and logistics operations in support the Gaza response
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Manage and coordinate a full range of documentation processing for execution of logistics operations, take appropriate actions to address issues and recommend improvements in processes.
2) Provide specialized support to logistics operations and activities, following standard processes and facilitating, directly or indirectly, the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
3) Coordinate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders including UNOPS, other UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, etc. to support logistics operations management and strengthen partnerships on humanitarian supply chain.
4) Coordinate closely with JHCO and other authorities to enable delivery of WFP and other humanitarian supplies into Gaza.
5) Coordinate the approval of WFP supplies through UNOPS mechanism including applications through UN 2720 mechanism, Customs approvals,
6) Establish reports based on logistics movements and distribute them according to requirements.
7) Consolidate and analyse the food pipeline available for the G2G modality deliveries and propose way forward for pipeline replenishment. Gather market intelligence, coordinate vendor assessments (e.g. transporters, warehouses) and produce relevant reports to support vendor selection process.
8) Manage complex operational issues and provide solutions or recommendations related to all assistance modalities, using initiative and following processes, to ensure the provision of timely resolutions with excellent client service mind-set.
9) For field-based positions, organise, lead, and participate in regional logistics meetings including the local transport committee.
10) Ensure the integrity of transport information, including commodity tracking in WFP standard systems. Prepare and maintain transport information for reporting purposes.
11) Respond to a variety of technical queries / requests for support, following standard processes, and obtaining guidance as required, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all inquiries with a high standard of client service mind-set.
12) Participate in logistics emergency preparedness and response activities including Logistics Capacity Assessment and Contingency Plan update, to support WFP’s response in emergencies.
13) Ensure adequate logistics preparedness through contingency planning and continuous logistics preparedness reviews.
14) Coordinate and provide logistics support to on-going air, land, sea, or rail operations in the area.
15) Coordinate logistics operations with other organisations in the area.
16) Supervise staff as required.
17) Perform other related duties as assigned.
