PSI’s Operational Excellence team works to make it easier at PSI, through business optimization efforts, process improvements, standards and quality monitoring, risk management, and other strategic initiatives aligned with PSI priorities.

PSI seeks a Senior Manager, Operational Excellence that will support the development and deployment of PSI’s risk management and continuous process improvement strategy and activities designed to reduce organizational risk and to improve operating efficiencies (OpEx), including PSI’s quality indicator global process and special projects for Executive Team members. Work with a broad range of PSI leadership, management staff as well as other internal and external stakeholders to improve operations and strengthen the network to ensure PSI’s success as a leader in its field. Report to and work closely with the Director, Risk Management & Operational Excellence. Manage OpEx support staff.

Salary Range:
$108,000 (MINIMUM) – $135,000 (MID-POINT) – $162,000 (MAXIMUM)

Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, experience, internal equity, external market analysis, and other business factors permitted by law. Your contributions

  • Facilitates planning and execution of OpEx priorities for business optimization and risk & knowledge management. Plan & execute critical process improvement and re-engineering efforts of global scope designed to reduce risk, improve compliance, and create operational efficiencies. Identify and drive change to resolve process gaps, and guide change management initiatives, as needed. Develop and lead project plans, conduct data analysis supporting process change, and leads cross-functional teams of leaders, managers, and subject matter experts, as needed. May provide updates to the Executive Team and senior leaders. 25% of Time
  • Facilitates initiatives to promote excellence in project management, including: oversight of project lifecycle trainings, ensuring quality, relevance, and accessibility of trainings; support Delivery Cone development & revision of project management SOPs and supporting tools. Makes recommendations to senior leaders to support continuous improvement of project management. 25% of Time
  • Contribute to identifying key metrics to be analyzed, in terms of a) OpEx team performance and b) OpEx activities aimed at improving operational efficiencies and minimizing risk. Does the same, as needed, for projects PSI has identified as high priority. Uses data to analyze these key metrics and provide comprehensive reports for leadership decision-making. 15% of Time
  • Provides guidance to leadership in the selection and prioritization of OpEx deliverables and projects by escalating key issues and new or evolving risks, and makes recommendations for additional resources that may be necessary to address new risk or compliance issues. 10% of Time
  • Supervise OpEx Associate, providing coaching, development, and performance management. Make recommendations concerning employment, termination, performance evaluations, salary actions, and other personnel actions. Support development of OpEx team goals. Support the Director to prioritize, organize, delegate, and coordinate flow of work. Enhance employee performance through frequent and timely communication and support. 10% of Time
  • Perform as a change agent and support OpEx initiatives to build a culture of operational excellence at all levels of the organization by supporting and leading special initiatives, communication strategies, and learning sessions. 10% of Time
  • Support adherence to PSI’s compliance programs and internal quality standards such as StEPS aimed at monitoring and reducing organizational risks. 5% of Time

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field
  • At least 10 years of related experience
  • Experience managing the full project life cycle of donor funded projects in an international context. Preference for working knowledge of Project DPro project management framework.
  • Experience working in and knowledgeable of challenges of working in geopolitically diverse environments.
  • Ability to drive change in an organization and produce results through influential authority.
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong facilitation and presentation skills. Ability to concisely and clearly convey complex topics to all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong ability to connect, collaborate, and empathize with diverse groups.
  • Basic financial acumen as it applies to process improvements and program/project management.
  • Knowledgeable in managing risk and compliance programs.
  • Experience with lean concepts and continuous process improvement approaches such as Six Sigma or Kaizen preferred.
  • Experience with change management approaches such as Prosci preferred.
  • Proficiency in at least one PSI official language other than English (French, Spanish, Portuguese) preferred.
