Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 981 million children and the prevention of more than 16 million future deaths.

THE ROLE

Please note this is a temporary role, until 31st December 2025.

The market shaping team contributes to achieving Gavi’s mission by working to improve the health of markets for vaccines and other immunisation products. Guided by the Gavi Market Shaping Strategy (https://www.gavi.org/our-alliance/market-shaping), the team develops and coordinates implementation of evidence-based Alliance strategies to address market-based health-commodity related challenges impacting Gavi countries. This includes the objectives of ensuring adequate and secure supply of suitable and quality vaccines and other immunisation products, at appropriate and sustainable prices.

 

 

• Lead development and contribute to the implementation of Alliance-wide market shaping strategies for an assigned portfolio of Gavi-supported vaccines (Pneumococcal, Measles-Rubella, Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis) consistent with Gavi’s Market Shaping Strategy;
• Meet target outcomes established as part of the strategy for assigned vaccines by execution of interventions and managing stakeholder accountability to interventions;
• Build and strengthen collaborative and productive engagement with a broad set of stakeholders across the value chain, including industry, procurement agency and other Alliance partner counterparts (including disease groups);
• Report on progress against target outcomes, interventions, and relevant key performance indicators;
• Act as the Gavi focal point for a number of vaccine manufacturer relationships;
• Ensure information resources and tools are kept up to date (including specific Market Shaping Roadmaps).

• Minimum of 8 years of professional work experience. This can include strategic planning, market analysis and project management expertise in a related industry, sector, and/or management consulting;
• Operational track record of excellence in achieving results;
• Solid experience managing projects and relationships with cross-functional teams;
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to complex and demanding business environments and situations;
• Demonstrated experience in the development of new strategies, methodologies and problem-solving approaches;
• Previous experience with vaccine or related industry/sector preferred;
• Multilateral partner engagement experience preferred;
• Developing country experience desirable.

 

 

• Proven ability to develop strategic approaches and follow through to implementation with diverse collaborators;
• Demonstrated ability to work across institutional boundaries with various teams, establish harmonious working relationships, utilise talent and expertise of team members in a productive way;
• Ability to chair and facilitate workshops and find common ground when leading large groups with competing priorities,
• Results-oriented, entrepreneurial and hands-on approach;
• Excellent quantitative analysis skills;
• Excellent communication and negotiating skills;
• Understanding of the pharmaceuticals and vaccines industry preferred;
• Understanding of global health and multilateral organisations preferred.

 

 

• Fluent English is required;
• French is an asset.

 

 

• Masters degree in a scientific, public health, or mathematics/economics/business-related field.
