The EIB, the European Union’s bank is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ), Innovation & Competitiveness Department (INCO), Sustainable & Digital Industries Division (SDI) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Minerals Processing Engineer*.
This is a full-time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

The Project Directorate’s mission is to provide independent economic and technical advice to the EIB’s decision makers on the quality of investment projects submitted to the Bank as well as advising promoters on the development and implementation of projects. Moreover, it informs the sector policies of the EIB in line with the pursuit of its overall policy mission. To accomplish its role, PJ is mainly staffed with sector specialists (Engineers, Economists, Environmental and Social experts), who work together in multi-disciplinary project teams, and closely cooperate with the other EIB operational services.
As the (Senior) Minerals Processing Engineer you will conduct, within multi-disciplinary teams, the due diligence of innovative projects within the mining and metal refining industries, with an emphasis on critical raw materials (CRM) key for the green and digital transition. You will assess the technical, environmental, social, financial, and economic viability of investment projects and programmes in countries where the Bank operates, in accordance with the Bank’s standards and procedures. You will also contribute to sector studies and/or policy papers in support of the EIB’s sector and lending policies.
The Innovation & Competitiveness Department (INCO) focuses on supporting investments in the knowledge economy and comprises of five divisions. As the Minerals Processing Sector Engineer, you will report to the Head of the Sustainable and Digital Industries (SDI) Division and work in close contact with the executive staff of the INCO Department, covering minerals processing projects, including extractive industries, metals refining and circular economy activities with a focus on innovation and critical raw materials relevant for the green and digital transition and their respective supply chains. You will be required to work closely with other services of the Bank, project promoters and external stakeholders. You should be ready to travel from time to time inside and outside of the EU.

(*) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support.
