Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Medical Services Unit of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), with the duty station in Abyei. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer or their designate.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Senior Nurse will be responsible for the following duties: • Oversee daily clinical activities and ensure the roster for emergency medical coverage outside regular working hours, including UN public holidays and weekends. • Plan and requisition the clinic’s medical material, supplies, and equipment needs. • Liaise with and coordinate with the Pharmacy unit to establish essential contracts for the mission. • Support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in coordinating with all stakeholders involved in CASEVAC/MEDVEAC and mass casualty incidents. • Provide medical support during evacuation and repatriation, and escort patients if needed. • Ensure medical records are uploaded to the EarthMed system timely and accurately to enable case managers to complete medical clearances, incident reports, medical evacuations, sick leave certificates, and disability recommendations. • Create and implement logistic plans to support field satellite clinics and follow up on their implementation, including assisting in arrangements for deceased personnel. • Develop and implement outreach programs for mission personnel. • Plan and organize preventive medical care training and promote medical fairs. • Publish periodic public health awareness bulletins on ongoing outbreaks and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in consultation with the CMO. • Ensure the isolation center is maintained to handle any upsurge of contagious diseases. • Perform medical briefings for incoming staff and conduct first aid training, arranging first aid kits for UN personnel deployed in deep field locations. • Oversee the maintenance and distribution of medical inventory and supplies on an ad hoc basis for the mission clinics and local community as required and guided by the mission management. • Assist the CMO in verifying bills generated for services provided by hospitals in regional evacuation centers. • Assist in contract performance management evaluation along with the pharmacy team, bringing attention to the CMO prior to final evaluation. • Actively participate in supporting the telehealth project in coordination with UNHQ and field medical facilities. • Prepare and update monthly medical reports from UNOE and TCC health facilities in the electronic system. • Carry out other duties as required.

Education
A Registered Professional Nurse who has graduated from either an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program (University) or an accredited Diploma Program (4 years) is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A license to practice nursing is required. Valid certifications in ECG, CPR, PHTLS, or a similar course is required.
Work Experience
At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in general nursing, including intensive care and health administration is required. Experience managing clinical teams or coordinating medical evacuation or mass casualty responses is required. Experience in the management of medical inventory and supply requisitions is required Prior experience in maintaining medical records in database systems such as EarthMed or similar platforms is desirable Prior experience developing and implementing outreach programs, preventative care training, or public health awareness campaigns is desirable Experience working in hospital and/or clinic management, including supervisory responsibilities, is required Experience working in an international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required.
Assessment
