Job Description

Our teams are well known for championing creative and innovative solutions to support all children and families to reach their full potential. On Mornington Island, we are looking for a Practioner to support our dedicated Early Childhood programs team to maximise their impact on the lives of children and families. In this varied and challenging role, you’ll develop and implement programs, foster lasting links with the community, develop the capacity of local workers and encourage active engagement with our services.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full time, maximum term role (through to end of December 2024), you’ll lead a local team to deliver our Early Childhood Education programs across Mornington Island. This will include our School Transition, Pay2Learn, Holiday and afterschool programs, working in the 0–8-year-old space. Reporting to our Mornington Island Team Leader, you’ll ideally be based in Doomadgee though a FIFO arrangement will be considered for this role.

You will make an impact by:

  • Driving quality programming at the Mornington Island Children and Family Centre.
  • Supporting the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs, risk management and child protection
  • Coach, train and develop colleagues to increase skill and competency to enable high quality service delivery.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with the local community and key stakeholders

Does this sound like you?

You’re a passionate early childhood leader, who works from a strengths-based perspective and highly values the wellbeing of their staff. You’ll be happy to contribute to program design, while prioritising results and risk management. Importantly, you’ll keep the values of 54 reasons at the forefront of your work and will always seek excellence in the services we provide to our families.

This role requires:

  • Experience working with teams supporting children and families from diverse backgrounds, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
  • Thorough knowledge of child protection processes and commitment to upholding them
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating reporting and collecting outcome data
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood or another relevant field, or significant relevant experience
