Job Description

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

A place where your purpose matters. Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

It takes all types of personalities and talents to drive our organisation– yours included. We value a healthy work-life balance and ensure our people feel connected to each other and our impact. Learn from inspiring people and grow from a connection to our strong local and global networks. From our programs to our support services – this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

Here you’re empowered to make a difference in children’s lives by learning, sharing and collaborating to find new ways to solve problems.

In this part-time permanent position (30.4 hours per week), you’ll work within our Domestic and Family Violence Refuge Program, playing a key role in supporting and implementing our practice framework within the refuge environment. Reporting to the Team Leader, you’ll be based in Brisbane in our crisis accommodation program working within a rotational roster Monday – Sunday between 8am & 8pm. We value maintaining a healthy work life balance and have incorporated considerations to support this.

You will make a difference by:

  • Supporting the Team Leader to implement our Child Centred Trauma Informed Practice Framework in a DFV Refuge environment
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to the team of DFV and Child Specialist practitioners
  • Supporting and strengthening informal and formal external networks with likeminded organisations and professionals
  • Providing crisis DFV support to women and children within the specialised model of the service

A place to feel valued:

Your expertise in the Domestic and Family Violence sector and in working with children and young people is invaluable. You’re highly adaptable with high levels of initiative, and you’re able to confidently assess risk and develop comprehensive safety plans according to individual need. We recognise your contribution and provide you the support to ensure you can bring your best, knowing here you have the space and opportunity to grow.

Bringing your best every day means:

  • Qualifications in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field, or significant relevant experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, coach and develop a team, as well as work effectively in a team
  • Ability to utilise your skills, knowledge, understanding, and experience working with families that are living with trauma to influence and guide practitioners to ensure safe and ethical practice
  • Proven experience in applying a trauma informed and strength-based approach with a focus on service user advocacy and network engagement
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
