SENIOR PROJECT COORDINATION ASSISTANT
The Senior Project Coordination Assistant will be responsible for overall field project activity implementation and coordination for successfully implementing the Aral Sea GRIP project.
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative and direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Senior Assistant will support the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of various project field activities including capacity-building training organization, Climate Smart Agriculture pilot interventions, media campaigns, and operations of the Business Development Platform. S/he will take responsibility for the day-to-day finance and administration activities needed for the implementation in close coordination with the Senior Administrative Assistant.
The above requires a broad and general understanding of the agriculture/forestry sector in the context of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and proven experience in organizing events, training, and consultations while engaging sub-national government counterparts and key project stakeholders. Fluency in English, Karakalpakstan, and Russian is required.

PURPOSE
The Senior Project Coordination Assistant for the Aral Sea GRIP project will be responsible for:
- Support the Project Manager in implementing project activities in project target areas.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating the regular status of the project and add quality value to project progress reports.
- Maintain strategic relationships with sub-national government counterparts, implementing partners, project stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day finance and administration activities needed for the successful project delivery.
- Support the procurement process of consulting firms and service providers in compliance with the agreement conditions and GGGI’s Rules and Regulations.
- Document project activity results and ensure that programmatic lessons learned are documented and used to generate a knowledge base for improved project practice and learning.
ENGAGEMENT
- Work closely with the Project Manager, the Senior Administrative Assistant, and the Senior Assistant to support the project implementation in all aspects related to financial monitoring, budgeting, procurement planning and monitoring, human resources, administration, and project closing.
- Support the team in preparation of financial reporting and record-keeping complying with government and donor requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholders for the effective project management and timely monitoring and reporting.
- Manage supplier relations with consulting firms, consultants, service providers, and suppliers.
- Coordinate events and sessions participated by various project stakeholders, including government and development partners, farmers, agriculture entrepreneurs and enabling institutions, and potential investors.
- Coordinate with project team members and stakeholders for the implementation of capacity-building and awareness-raising activities.
- Support the implementation of climate-smart agriculture technologies pilots.
- Support the operations of GGGI’s Business Development Platform.
- Support the promotion of project results and lessons learnt.
DELIVERY
- Consolidate financial analyses reports and papers for government counterparts, the Project Steering Committee, donor, the Project Manager, and the project team.
- Support the execution of the procurement process, including the issuance of contracts and sub-contracts for activities in the field office by preparing and/or reviewing draft documents in the requested languages and conducting quality control for PM’s clearance.
- Facilitate and organize project-related workshops, seminars, or any other form of events, in developing plans, preparing related documents, and following up on logistics.
- Ensure gender equality is integrated and mainstreamed throughout all the project outputs and activities.
- Draft project-related documents, including background documents, official letters, and press releases.
- Support the organization of regular monitoring meetings and participate in field monitoring missions to the project sites, if requested.
- Support the preparation of regular project updates and reports as well as the organization of Project Steering Committee.
- Ensure the appropriate use of GGGI budget tools and systems by team members.
- Support the provision of required inputs for carrying out internal/external audits in compliance with the requirements and standards of government, donor, and GGGI.
- Assisting in smooth communication among project team members, serving as crucial conduit between Project Manager and team members in Nukus Office.
- Support and train the team members in the use of collaborative-work tools.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, finance, environment, agriculture, or a related field of study (In lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree with considerable professional job experience can be acceptable).
- Preferred 2 years of relevant work experience in the technical field closely aligned with the performance of tasks in this position.
- Experience in organizing & facilitating events, workshops, consultation activities.
- Experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders, including financial institutions, government institutions, private-sector companies, NGOs, civil society, others, is a plus.
- Experience in monitoring and reporting.
- Professional experience related to climate smart agriculture related projects is a plus.
- Fluency in Karakalpak, Russian, and English languages, both written and verbal.

- Knowledge of green growth/climate resilient approaches in agribusiness is desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Senior Project Coordination Assistant holds the X5 national grade level. As per the GGGI Staff Regulations of July 2023, Uzbekistan’s national position graded X5 starts from $17,708. The determination of base salary is subject to the candidate’s experience, academic background, and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision. The chosen candidate is expected to be based in Nukus, Uzbekistan.

In 2021 GGGI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the State Committee for Ecology and Environment Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan (now Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change) in support of UN resolution A/RES/70.1, Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paris Climate Agreement. Both Parties agreed to cooperate in strengthening the national, sub-national, and local green growth planning, financing, and institutional frameworks; increasing green public and private investment flows; improving South-South Cooperation and evidence-based knowledge sharing; and advancing thought leadership for green growth in Uzbekistan.
In July 2021 GGGI Uzbekistan launched the “Green Rehabilitation Investment Project for Karakalpakstan Republic to address the impact of the Aral Sea Crisis (Aral Sea GRIP project).” Funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), it has assisted in introducing climate-resilient agribusiness models to communities of most disaster-affected districts to pursue disaster-resilient sustainable livelihoods and providing policy, financing, and investment frameworks to allow these to be scaled up. In February 2023, GGGI Uzbekistan joined hands with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to implement the “Support for the realization of a pilot Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)” to identify sectorial policy/programs to be the SEA subject and support mainstreaming of the SEA approach in policy planning for sustainable tourism development.
The GGGI Uzbekistan Country Office is hosted by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change (MEEPCC) in Tashkent. It has a field office in Nukus, embedded within the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
