Senior Research Assistant (Adv#205/2023)

icddr,b is conducting a study to assess the resistance of the existing drugs used to treat malaria. The study includes various laboratory methods to detect drug resistance in field isolates of malaria parasites, employing both in vitro and molecular detection techniques.
The Senior Research Assistant reporting to the Scientist will be involved in vitro maintenance of malaria parasite, conduct laboratory test, preserve samples, analyze and manage data with the objective of supporting research studies within the guidelines of project-specific field research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:
Duties and responsibilities:
- Perform vitro maintenance of malaria parasites & conduct laboratory tests like process malaria patients’ samples, analyze samples and store; Carry out Microscopy; Prepare media and reagents; Extract DNA from clinical samples; Perform traditional and Real-Time PCR etc;
- Maintain and calibrate Microscope, PCR & Real – time PCR machine, laboratory equipment for their optimum operation and perform minor trouble shooting;
- Perform Data Management related activities like, enter laboratory tests data, prepare CRF in excel, input test results in database; Verify a random sample of data entered; Generate critical value list; Act on critical value list in consultation with supervisor; submit results & Store data;
- Analyze data and report to supervisor;
- Maintain cold chain for samples, Store in lab freezer for DNA extraction and other lab works;
- Store extracted DNA/RNA in freezer and ensure preservation of water filter in freezer in appropriate way for further use;
- Provide support to Senior Staff in processing different biological samples; Perform different molecular tests and escalate issues to supervisor if required.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Masters in Zoology/Parasitology;
- 03 years’ experience in relevant lab research.
Location: Dhaka
Contract Type and duration:
- Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 04 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 43,423/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
