Position Summary
The alliance is seeking to recruit a Senior Research Associate. The Senior Research Associate will be working with multiple partners, coordinating agronomy extension work, tailoring interventions to farmer needs. The position though based in Kigali Rwanda, will be instrumental in supporting seed and agronomy work in Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC, and other countries in the region, complementing available national research and other extension services.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to research activities aimed at generating knowledge on best management strategies for improved seeds and ICM practices and supporting improved use efficiencies of production inputs, among them new high yielding varieties among farmers.
- Responsible for integrating new technologies and innovations from the CGIAR to targeted users and integrate weather and climate change considerations.
- Ensure that women and youth inclusively benefit from improved technologies and practices.
- Generate reports and present findings to Alliance bean program, partners, or other interested parties.
- Generate training and extension products and techniques for use by targeted beneficiaries and partners.
- Manage field teams and field visits of scientists and partners and other duties that will be assigned to optimize research delivery in the bean program.
- Be instrumental in supporting seed and agronomy work in Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC, and other countries in the region, complementing available national research and other extension services.
Requirements
- MSc in relevant field (such as Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, crop or plant management, education and extension, seed systems, agribusiness, and rural development and related) plus 3 years of relevant professional experience following degree.
- Competence in statistical analysis.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize, good oral and written communication.
- Ability to work in a team and in partnership with agricultural professionals.
- Fluency in technical, written and spoken English and working knowledge of French and Swahili.
- Experience working in the eastern and central Africa region.
- Analytical and analytical skills.
- Appreciation of digital agricultural tools and apps.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical person with excellent listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team and in partnership with others beyond the CGIAR
- Good capacity to integrate knowledge from different disciplines beyond agronomy.
- Broad understanding beyond the subject matter to interact and steer implementation across different strands including statistics, ICT tools utilization, social science dialogues, climate change adaptation, seed systems, links to nutrition among others.
Terms of Employment
This is a nationally recruited position based in Kigali, Rwanda. The initial contract will be for a period of one (1) year and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
