With its 14 E-3A aircraft, our organization plays a critical role in NATO and our mission is to deliver ready, responsive Airborne Early Warning, Battle Management, and Command and Control capability to operational commanders in support of NAC-approved tasks.
The Base Support Wing (SW) is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of all MOB support functions including the supervision of those functions covered in HN Support Agreements. The Air Traffic Control & Airfield Services Squadron directs and controls performance of subordinate Branches/Sections. It provides Air Traffic Control Service, Meteorological Service, Fire-/Crash- and Rescue-Service, Ground Radar and Radio Maintenance Service. The Meteorology Branch forecasts weather, gives weather briefings, analyses weather patterns and researches historical information.
The incumbent is responsible to provide the MOB personnel with accurate and timely weather observations for safe and effective air and ground operations. He/she also supports the weather forecaster (Scientist Meteorology) in his/her duties. Additionally incumbent ensures that all required weather instruments and equipment are in good working order, and is responsible for the timely issuing of weather information and forecasts, weather briefings and other meteorological products to ensure that flying operations at the Main Operating Base and any other Operating Base are carried out in a safe and effective manner.

THE ROLE
- Providing the required meteorological observations and designated/related atmospheric information at the NAEW&C Force and its direct surroundings using a variety of meteorological equipment;
- Interpreting standards and regulations as they apply to weather observation and bird reporting;
- Interpreting atmospheric data measurements and apprising the forecaster and other concerned personnel on significant changes in the actual weather situation;
- Assisting the forecaster in the preparation of weather information and disseminating products to local and long line customers;
- Providing, in the absence of a forecaster, in conjunction with a designated Host Nation Forecaster weather warnings to avoid loss of base equipment and prevent injury to Component personnel;
- Performing preventive maintenance on meteorological equipment;
- Ensuring the proper functioning of the meteorological communications, data and graphics display systems;
- Administering parts and other equipment for the daily functioning of the office;
- Providing input for the formulation or revision of directives and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Very good knowledge of the rules and regulations governing weather observation and bird reporting acquired through at least 3 years` current related professional experience, including meteorological weather reporting;
- Working experience as Junior Forecaster or Met Briefer acquired through at least 2 years` related professional experience;
- Good knowledge of European civilian and military meteorological organizations, systems and procedures;
- Higher secondary education and at least 2 years intermediate vocational training as a meteorological specialist, or Secondary education and advanced vocational training as a meteorological specialist with at least 2 additional year post related, current professional experience;
- Formal education or vocational training as (Junior) Forecaster or Met Briefer with professional accreditation with 2 years` post related experience;
- Formal education or vocational training in Space Weather. (Remark: If this training is not available the incumbent is required to undergo this training on the post. Failing to finish the education/training in an agreed time-frame without positive result will lead to separation from the organization);
- The incumbent should have a license as aeronautical radio operator, or shall be willing to acquire this license on the post. (Remark: Failing to finish the education/training in a given time-frame without positive result will lead to separation from the organization);
- Driving License equivalent to European Class B;
- Adequate level of Automatic Data Processing (ADP) systems is essential;
- The work, both oral and written, in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English. Consequently, adequate level of English proficiency is required;
- The host nation language (German) is required for incumbent to perform assigned duties.
THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE
- Good knowledge of computer systems as they apply to meteorological data transfer and applications;
- Previous NATO assignment;
- Minimum of two years current (i.e. acquired within the last three years) work experience in an international / military aviation environment;
- Familiarity with aviation and synoptic meteorology and its application to the E-3A Component’s mission, to include some weather satellite technology and radar propagation;
- Computer training in PC software usage and small scale development of meteorological applications.

CONTRACT
Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.
Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of three years. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract might be offered.
SALARY
Salary value indicated in this vacancy notice is based on NATO`s Single Salary Spine scale.
