Position Summary:

This advanced subject matter expert will provide technical expertise to advance FHI 360’s nutrition leadership globally, act as key advocate for nutrition, and grow the portfolio of nutrition, integrated health, feed the future and food systems activities within the Global Nutrition Team. The senior technical advisor stays abreast of U.S. legislative and international initiatives relevant to nutrition and food security agreements and actions undertaken by domestic, bilateral and multilateral institutions in response to economic and political changes to inform an expanded portfolio of nutrition-related programming. S/he also establishes technical quality standards for nutrition programs and ensures that the standards are met – or exceeded – throughout the project life cycle from business development through implementation.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Thought Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership in nutrition, integrated health, feed the future, food security and food systems, representing FHI 360 in relevant venues and forums.
  • Serve as a nutrition focal point with technical leadership guiding FHI 360’s global challenges
  • Identify areas for improved effectiveness and quality assurance of nutrition projects and programs
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with donor/client organizations, relevant government agencies, bilateral and other NGOs working in the field of nutrition and food security.
  • Represent FHI 360 on panels, working groups, and other thought leadership opportunities
  • Summarize FHI 360 nutrition project/program accomplishments and lessons learned and submit for publication or other dissemination efforts

Program Development

  • Lead resource mobilization activities that advance FHI 360’s nutrition portfolio to ensure business objectives are met, i.e., develop a global nutrition strategy and participate in business development activities
  • Contribute to resource mobilization activities that include nutrition and food security as part of integrated programming and service delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership in design, development, planning, implementation and capacity building of nutrition-related programming, including integrated efforts that involve nutrition.

Program Quality and Technical Assistance

  • Provide technical contributions to nutrition and food security-related research agendas, protocol development and analysis of findings.
  • Establish/maintain technical quality standards for FHI 360 nutrition portfolio – and ensure that these standards guide the design and implementation of current and future projects and programs
  • Maintains a dialogue and technical exchange with in-country counterparts, including mentoring relationships, to foster excellence in nutrition programs
  • Develop tools and resources to track project/program performance against quality standards
  • Participate in relevant technical quality reviews
  • Review, analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition programs/projects and make recommendations for enhancements

Applied Knowledge and Skills:

  • Track record of having worked with multiple bilateral and multilateral donors, implementing partners, and local organizations; USAID and other donor experience essential.
  • Track record of innovative and successful approaches to programming and business development, or experience with public/private sector, or, ability to expand donor base to foundations, European donors and other non-US government sources
  • Ability to work with in-country technical teams, having a strong record of successfully delivering technical assistance in multiple settings
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Ability to clearly present ideas and concepts, especially in the context of public presentations
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • French or Spanish highly desirable
  • Must be willing to travel as the job dictates

Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in nutrition and/or public health; PhD and/or MPH desirable
  • 15+ years experience in providing leadership to nutrition and food security programs
  • Preferred candidates will also have at least 8 years experience in developing new business and success in building a portfolio of projects and activities

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

Hiring Salary Range: $90,000 – $185,000
