Established in 2018, the Self-Care Trailblazer Group (SCTG) is a global coalition of partners dedicated to expanding the safe and effective practice of self-care so that individuals can better manage their own health, health outcomes are improved, and health systems are better equipped to achieve UHC. By improving the enabling environment for self-care, particularly through policy development, the SCTG aims for self-care to be institutionalized into policy and integrated into national health systems. The SCTG works with global, regional, national, and local partners to achieve this goal and the outcomes contributing to it. The SCTG Secretariat is hosted by PSI.

PSI seeks a Senior Advisor I, Technical Project that will lead the implementation and design of technical activities of the Self-Care Trailblazer Group (SCTG) Secretariat and sub-grantees, with the aim of contributing to improving the enabling policy environment for integration of self-care in SCTG focus countries. This role will engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are achieved. Contribute to and may lead internal and external capacity building efforts. An internal and external thought leader in their field.

Salary
PSI is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • For Kenya (paid in Ksh): Ksh 5,400,000 (minimum) – Ksh 9,000,000 (midpoint) – Ksh 11,700,000 (maximum)
  • Other PSI countries (paid in local currency): Salary range to be determined dependent on location.

*Please note that those hired outside of the US will be employed through the local PSI office. Pay and benefits will be commensurate with the role and practices of the local office, including payment in local currency. Details will be provided during interview process.

Your Contributions

  • Lead and contribute to the development and implementation of SCTG’s technical activities and strategy, including analyzing evidence to develop and introduce innovative technical approaches. Ensure workplans are completed on time, on budget, and in accordance with PSI quality standards. 35% of Time
    • Provide remote and in-country technical assistance in policy development and implementation, including training to build the capacity of national self-care networks (NSNs) to effectively deliver results in line with PSI and global best practices, and the SCTG’s technical strategy. Lead development and implementation of the SCTG and NSN workplans in collaboration with program management team.
  • Engage with external partners, other departments, and country programs as a subject matter expert. Develop project technical guidance (briefs, presentations, statements) Represent the SCTG at internal fora and assist in fostering, maintaining, and strengthening strategic partnerships. Provide technical assistance and/or training to build the capacity of project staff. May manage other technical advisors and project staff and/or provide coaching and mentoring to staff. Time 15%
  • Develop content for publications (e.g., blogs, manuscripts, etc.) as outlined under project deliverables. Oversee and contribute to reporting on program activities, including synthesis of key learnings and dissemination of best practices. Ensure timely project technical reports for management and donors’ decision-making process. 20% of Time
  • Representation at relevant technical working groups, conferences, workshops, and policy-oriented forums. Develop and maintain relationships with external partner organizations, ministries of health and donors, though representation of the project, demonstrating technical expertise, capacity, and experience in technical area. Participate in technical conversations and meetings convened by donors. 20% of Time
  • Utilize evidence-based tools and innovation to improve project performance and reputation in self-care. Collaborate with Monitoring and Evaluation team to establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track project progress, KPIs and impact measurements. Provide inputs to the project’s program management team for the development of budgets and budget realignments by project’s program management team. 10% of Time

What are we looking for?

  • Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field (e.g., MPH, MSc, MPP, MPA, MBA)
  • At least 10 years of related experience, working with governments, ministries of health and NGOs in the health sector.
  • Experience providing technical support in health policy and governance and using data for decision making. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted.
  • Demonstrated expertise in relevant technical area.
  • Ability to contribute to the internal and external body of evidence in relevant technical area.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance internally and externally.
  • Ability to share knowledge internally and externally with communities of practice; represent the project(s) externally.
  • Ability to distill complex technical concepts into strategic goals, objectives, and approaches; demonstrate strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to design solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to manage the execution of complex technical projects or initiatives.
  • Ability to work with teams of technical advisors to achieve technical objectives.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365. Familiarity with quantitative or qualitative data analysis. program preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency in a relevant language other than English preferred.
