Service Support Worker – Emergency Department (3 positions available)
Location: Wrexham Maelor Emergency Department, Croesnewydd Road, Wrexham LL13 7TD
Contract type: Casual
Hours per week: As and when required
Salary: £10.90 per hour

We are looking for caring and resilient people, who can think on their feet in a pressured environment to join our Independent Living team as Service Support Workers within Wrexham Maelor Emergency Department.
Based in fast paced, busy and intense Emergency Department, you will provide practical and emotional support to patients. You will undertake non-medical tasks to free up the medical staff to be able to focus on their clinical role and make visitors’ stay as comfortable as possible.

A day in the life of a Service Support Worker will involve:

Escorting patients to assigned departments
Collecting prescriptions to speed up their discharge
Providing emotional support/pastoral care while they await treatment
Providing emotional support to close friends and families
Ensuring patients have food/drink while waiting for long hours and assisting with food distribution at meal times
Driving patients home when discharged and making sure they are safely settled at home
Signposting and referring patients to other sources of support in the community

Please note that this service runs from Monday to Sunday (including bank holidays) and successful candidates will be expected to commit to up to 10-hour shifts (flexible days).

To be a successful Service Support Worker, you’ll need:

To know how to improve service quality for the benefit of users, dealing with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner.
A good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care.
Education to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience).
To be IT literate.
Full UK driving licence allowing you to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
