Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform that repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator – the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level – support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs.
The One UN in Rwanda aspires to fully leverage the diversity of the mandates, expertise, and comparative advantage to effectively respond to the needs of the people in Rwanda in an effective, efficient, and inclusive manner.
To implement this vision, the One UN has adopted specific UNSDCF implementation modalities including Facilitation Task Teams. Among other Facilitation Task Teams, there is a Diversity and inclusion Task Team (D&I FTT) which support the acceleration of the One UN’s efforts to domesticate the diversity and inclusive aspects of the SDGs, under the leadership of a champion and an alternate champion appointed by the RC.
The concepts of sexual orientation and gender identities are new and rapidly emerging in many areas of the world. There are differences in perception and understanding, and many consider them very sensitive due to different factors, including cultures and religion. The orientation of UN staff toward sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) is a crucial step in promoting and protecting the rights of all individuals. The UN recognizes the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all, including the LGBTIQ+ community.
It is against this backdrop that, the UN Diversity, and Inclusion Facilitation Task Team (UN D&I FTT) has planned the orientation sessions to ensure that UN staff get aware of the concepts and prepare organizations for the new era of diversity in their work systems. This orientation is a step in the right direction towards achieving the goal of leaving no one behind.
The consultant will have the following responsibilities:
a. Elaborate an inception report for the assignment with clear methodologies, timelines, and tools to be used in the orientations.
b. Facilitate five orientation sessions to different groups (20-25 persons for each), in accordance with the time schedules proposed by the consultant and agreed upon with the D&I FTT.
c. Prepare the final orientation report and submit D&I FTT
Reporting line: The consultant will be under the overall supervision of the RCO strategic planning & team leader.
