Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 400 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for Shelter and Settlement Assistant for its activities in Lviv.
This position will report to the Shelter and Settlement Team Leader.
Overall purpose of the role:
The Shelter and Settlement Assistant is in charge of the implementation of Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) and Non-Food Items (NFI) activities to be carried out in the West of Ukraine (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn’ oblast) including participation in distributions, supporting monitoring and evaluation, reporting after each distribution and compliance with relevant SOPs.
Main Responsibilities:
Programming & Operations
- Under the leadership of the Shelter and Settlement Team Leader, ensure smooth implementation of project activities related to the emergency interventions;
- Around 80% of the working hours are expected to be spent on field visits (local business trips);
- Ensure timely disbursement of programme targets on multipurpose cash grants and non-food items in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn’ oblast;
- Ensure all necessary NFI/MPCA data and documentation are collected and provided timely;
- Support information dissemination and outreach activities, as well as via close collaboration with regional administrations, INGOs, local NGOs, etc;
- Close collaboration with the DRC Support Unit in relation to programme activities;
- Back-up Cash and Voucher Assistance Officer when necessary;
- Understand, and ensure the observance of the DRC Code of Conduct;
- Perform other tasks as requested by DRC management.
Coordination and representation
- Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on sector-relevant issues;
- Ensure integration with other DRC sectors.
Project development
- Develop projects tools;
- Monitor and evaluate projects.
Logistics/Finance
- Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movements of staff from and to different operational areas;
- Initiate procurements and ensure their execution.
Required experience and competencies:
- Relevant university degree (e.g. political science, international development, or economics) or equivalent professional qualification;
- Minimum 1 year of proven experience in the emergency / economic recovery / livelihoods / private sector;
- Good understanding of emergency response interventions as well as economic recovery activities;
- Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Fluency in local languages: Ukrainian, Russian;
- English will be an advantage.
