Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Design, develop and implement front-end and backend software in the scope of EUROCONTROL’s innovation hub projects.
  • Participate to projects:
    • capture and analyse project needs
    • support users in refining the needs/requirements (expectations vs feasibility)
    • identify and implement technical solutions
  • Contribute to architecture and DevOps.
  • Develop and run cloud applications serving R&D and innovation projects.
  • Perform acceptance testing; analyse impact of incidents from a user’s perspective identified during testing and participate to validation activities.
  • Analyse system performance to identify potential shortcomings and propose solutions.
  • Produce technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal & external teams and stakeholders on relevant technical matters.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university studies of at least 4 years in a relevant domain (e.g. Software Engineering, etc.).
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant professional experience to perform the advertised tasks.
  • Experience in:
    • Frontend technologies: JavaScript/NodeJS, Angular and/or REACT
    • Cloud technologies / Backend: Azure, Docker / Kubernetes, Message brokers (Kafka, Redis, NATS, etc.), APIs development and management, Database (MySQL, PostGreSQL, ElasticSearch, etc.).
    • Programming languages: Java / Go / Python
  • Experience or understanding of the following tools would be an advantage:
    • Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Kibana and/or Grafana
  • Analytical thinking: You analyse information and are able to identify relationships.
  • Problem-solving: You anticipate and solve business issues.
  • Creativity and innovation: You apply new approaches.
  • Communication: You are able to foster two-way communication.
  • Quality focus: You set and foster high quality standards.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become, at least, a basic user of French (level A1) before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

Useful information

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year(s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be engaged in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
