Position: Spatial Data Analyst /GIS Officer

Closing Date: 11 April 2025

Contract: 2-year renewable contract Location: Liberia

The GIS/RS expert will take on the responsibility for spatial data management at the project location and to consolidate the activities implemented by partners at their various locations. The GIS/RS expert will be a nationally recruited professional with proven experience in similar projects.

DUTIES

  • Create and modify environmental GIS datasets such as soil, climate, hydrology and terrain layers.
  • Manage and maintain legacy GIS datasets.
  • Spatial data processing and management at project locations.
  • Stakeholder engagement in terms of data sharing and management.
  • Consolidation of data from partners.
  • Perform spatial data analysis and modelling using ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro or QGIS, R or Python.
  • Processing and analysis of remote sensing data products such as LANDSAT and SENTINEL 2 to derive environmental variables such as land-use, land cover, soil attributes.
  • Map production with high-quality and professional cartographic designs.
  • Provide technical guidance in GIS data collection, processing and management to the project team.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION:

  • The candidate should have an MSc degree in GIS, geography, environmental studies, or related field with demonstrated capabilities in vector and raster GIS.
  • Experience using Python, R, or ModelBuilder scripting language is desirable, as job duties will include creating scripts to streamline frequently performed tasks.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Esri ArcGIS desktop software, including ArcMap and ArcPro or QGIS.
  • Familiar with GPS data collection and data management.
  • Experience working with different coordinate systems, map projections, and datum.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple assignments, determine and set job task priorities, and work with limited direct supervision.

COMPETENCIES:

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have demonstrated experience in geographical and remote sensed data management.
  • Have At least 3 years’ experience in the field of GIS/RS.
  • Be experienced working with partners from academia, government institutions, NGOs, and national agricultural research centers in the context of smallholder farming systems in Africa.
  • Have demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and diverse environments.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
