Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose
As a Cloud Engineering Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of cloud-based systems. Under the supervision of the Global Cloud Solutions Architect, you will work to improve the efficiency of cloud operations, troubleshoot issues, enhance security measures, and ensure robust backup and disaster recovery processes. Additionally, you will also contribute to the continuous improvement of infrastructure and applications.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist in application deployment, management, configuration, migration, and monitoring of cloud resources
- Assist in Implementing security measures, such as network and data/information security, user and access management, backup, and disaster recovery, to improve the overall security posture of a multi-account cloud environment
- Create cloud service accounts for specific projects and providing user access with the principle of least privilege
- Application of the CIA triad as a baseline for information security
- Document issues and solutions to build a knowledge base for future reference
- Develop and implement scripts to automate infrastructure provisioning and leverage cloud APIs or CLI tools to automate specific tasks
- Prepare and coordinate estimated costs and billings
- Provide technical support
- Work with the research and corporate teams to help design and build applications and cloud solutions
- Support IRRI country offices on application and cloud computing needs
- Provide recommendations and transfer knowledge to other IRRI staff to increase the institute’s proficiency in cloud, data, and security
- Understand project requirements, gather information, and clarify project objectives
- Assess the appropriate tools and services aligned with cloud and software best practices
- Keep up to date with technology and take certification exams
- Assist the GCSA with reporting needs
- Assist the GCSA with creating proof of concepts and demos of potential technical solutions based on the business’s needs
- Help promote using cloud-native tools, i.e., docker and serverless, to modernize cloud and application infrastructure.
- Help evangelize the use of cloud technology for research
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or any Engineering Degree with a minimum of 2 years working experience/s
Skills Required
Mandatory
- Experience in software development
- Good communication skills
- Ability to design and innovate solutions based on business needs
- Experience working with stakeholders and understanding needs
Preferred
- With at least one year of experience managing production workload in any cloud service provider like AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Ability to work with a team
- Cloud certifications
- Experience with writing Python code
