Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Medical Services Unit within the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in Congo (MONUSCO) Kinshasa . Under the overall supervision of the Chief Supply Chain Management and Service Delivery , the Staff Counsellor, FS-5 will report to the Chief Medical Officer .
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority and under the supervision of the Staff Counsellor, the Assistant of Staff Counsellor will be responsible for the following functions: ● Assist in conduct individual or group defusing and/or debriefings following traumatic events or for secondary trauma. ● Offer training workshops to staff on relevant psychological topics to facilitate better preparedness. ● Ensure all staff have access to counseling services. This will include travel to all areas in the DRC where MONUSCO staff are employed. ● Continuously assess, monitor, and brief Staff Counselor on the sources of stress and stress levels among MONUSCO staff. ● Facilitate greater use of peer support within the organization through assisting the establishment, training, and empowerment of peer support groups such as Staff Outreach Support (SOS). ● Compile and/or develop informational resources that can be made available to staff including on-line and power point training material, self help material, and information on other local services available. ● Provides an induction/briefing to new staff in the region introduction to local culture, welfare/recreational activities and facilities, supermarkets etc. ● Collaborate with the Medical, Conduct, Gender, and Personnel Sections by providing supportive intervention on individual cases upon request. ● Assess staff welfare needs more generally and make recommendations to the Staff Counselor. ● Liaises with other agencies in the sector regarding needs, upcoming events, or activities. ● Monitor the stress management program implementation via data collection including compiling daily clinical statistics, analyses, and documentation. • Implementing preventative and mitigating stress management/wellbeing activities such as sports events and competitions, tours/trips, recreational clubs, café/bar, exercise and meditation classes, speaker series, play readings, game nights, choir or karaoke, training, and other wellbeing activities and events in collaboration with the Welfare committee. • Attending and actively participating in meetings of the Welfare Committee and Subcommittee-tees. • Assist the Welfare committee in establishing and maintaining exercise, sport, and recreational facilities for eligible MONUSCO personnel and maintaining equipment and membership. Helping the Welfare committee in developing and maintaining a library including arranging the loan as well as rotation of books, audio books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs whenever it is necessary. • Liaising with other UN agencies and NGOs under the (Department of Safety & Security) DSS umbrella in the AOR regarding upcoming training, events. or activities. ● Report to the Staff Counselor in charge of the office. ● Perform administrative related duties ● Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Clinical Psychology is required. Diploma from courses related to psychological interventions are an advantage.

Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in psychological related interventions and/ or a relevant combination of education and clinical experience in a closely related field is required. Awareness and appreciation of client cultural differences; awareness of their own capacity and limitations; Sensitivity and respect for diversity is required. Discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment in dealing with sensitive issues is required. Highly developed communication skills as well as good interpersonal skills. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a changeable and demanding working environment is required. Professional, independent and ethical practice is desirable. International experience in a multicultural, multi ethnic environment is desirable. Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic are required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of Arabic language is an advantage.
