Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Director of World Heritage (CLT/WH), and the direct supervision of the Head of the Africa Unit of the World Heritage Centre (CLT/WHC/AFR), the Project Officer is responsible for the coordination and management of the project “Creating a Sustainable Heritage Ecosystem for Socio-economic Development in Africa”. This project aspires to contribute to the achievement of three targets set out in the UNESCO Operational Strategy for Priority Africa (2022-2029) regarding World Heritage; through improving the representativity of Africa on the World Heritage List, strengthening the capacities of African experts, including by empowering them to harness innovative technology, and finally harnessing good conservation practices for socio-economic development. The incumbent will further work, in collaboration with the Coordinator of the Programme on Culture and Digital Technologies implemented within the Framework of the Funds-in-Trust agreement between the Ministry of Culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UNESCO.

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 100 541 US $.
